The reason there is politics is that human beings are social animals that gather in groups and naturally form hierarchies and power structures. Even a group as small as two people has "politics."

But it sounds like your problem is not politics:

If all you want is simplicity, and to be left to do you own thing for the most part and live your own self-sustaining life, then there are PLENTY of places to go. Northern California is full of communities where people do that. Sounds like you are just right for Mendocino or Humboldt county.

There are plenty of things wrong with politics, but preventing you from living a simple life is not one of them. Sounds more to me like you just don't know what to do with your life.
