I have 3 friends who have been to Iraq and enjoyed it a great deal. I understand not everyone feels the same way and they may not represent the masses, but none the less the three vets I know enjoyed their time in the service.

The bottom line is this. I have a lot of respect for those in the armed forces, I sure as hell wouldn't join. As for people who do though, it should be understood what you are getting yourself into. There is always the possibility you will be forced to fight in a war you don't believe in.
With that said, I firmly believe the National Guard should be used strictly for defensive purposes, natural disasters, etc, but again, it's understood you may be called to active duty.
On a final note, I see your point in regards to oil and feel we should be pushing the Iraqi government for a massive discount in that regard. At least we know the war wasn't over oil though...
