My vote for him will be about these things. He more closely aligns with what I see as vitally important for the future of the profession I work in, my patients, my wife and child and future grandchildren, and our world:
- Health care policy that'll enable all people to get care under a non-big-business-driven model. This offers the most hope, too, of effecting Big Pharma and Big Insurance change, which is desperately needed. Here's where the hope for allowed cannabis research lies and where its legalization may be helped.
- Hands-off lobbyist policy
- Supreme court appointments
- Women's reproductive rights
- Support for domestic social programs
- Pro public education policy
- Environmental awareness and policy, including alternative energy source development
- Redemption of the U.S.'s international reputation and regard
- Taxes that are proportional to personal and corporate income (I'll feel some personal and professional tax pain on this one, but things aren't fair to the people who can't as well afford the taxes right now.)
- Restoration of our privacy rights and re-moderation of presidential powers that have been so vastly, inappropriately inflated under Cheney/Bush
- A change in policy and tactics for the war on terror*
* = qualms. This one is admittedly spooky. Of all of these areas, McCain is the better qualified here. If there's one thing our family and friends in Iraq and Afghanistan have taught us, it's that a blanket pull-out would mean a blood bath and decades-long destabilization of that entire area, which we're already facing anyway as a result of Bush's aggression. Fortunately, Obama is going to have to listen to advisors on this and will come to this same conclusion after he visits those places and learns more. I frankly wish Obama could take the presidency and put McCain in at (Dept. of) Defense, but of course that can't happen.

the respect of the rest of the world. if they see america elect a black president, they have to see that as a sharp departure from the bush administration.
we have lost alot of goodwill the last 8 years around the world...

The fact that he isn't Bush the Third. He's not perfect but McCain would be a disaster. Voting independent is a wasted vote.

When compared with McBain's, I think his past votes on education policies are far more likely to produce actual education.

GTFO, america is supposed to be independent, and if you dont like it, then you're in the wrong country.
