    A/C power surge question

During the hotter months I have to run my ac during the light period to keep it at a decent temperature. The problem is when theres a power surge the AC shuts off, but the lights stay on. Is there any way to make sure the ac kicks back on after the surge. If this isn't possible is there a way to make sure the lights turn off after a surge(rather lose a few hours of light then burn my plants). Thanks.

    A/C power surge question

If lights and a/c are on the same circuit, would separate them. Is a/c on an extention cord? How about a surge protector?

I know they make a/c units that are programmed to come back on after a power surge, yours might not be one of them.

As for not burning your plants in the event of a power surge and the a/c shuts off, you can get Thermostat that you plug your ballast into that will shut off the light if it goes over your set temp. I have one made by green air, I think there about $80.
    Hope that helps

Any chance you could post a link or the thermostat your talking about? Sounds like it would be great for my situation, just cant seem to find one. Thanks

So...instead of rectifying a possible electrical fire hazard, you'd rather purchase a gadget to circumvent a failing circuit/appliance? Gee...hopefully the new gadget doesn't fail, too.

    Good luck.

    A/C power surge question

What fire hazard exactly? Nothing is hooked through extension cords. My lights and AC are on separate circuits. The only problem is my ac isnt programmed to turn back on after the power goes out. The power surges arn't a common problem. But power surges do happen every once in awhile. Has only happened once since I've started(about 2-3 months, but the room hit temps in the 104 degree range before I caught it. Most of the plants showed some signs of heat stress, and the ones under the HID were hit pretty hard. Thanks for the link chris.

your welcome:thumbsup: The other good thing it has is the 15 minute delay which won't allow a hot start if the power does happen to go off and come right back on. I know some newer ballasts already have this saftey feature but a lot don't. Anyways take care

Battery Backup.. like the one they make for computers.
A big one woun't keep the ac running for a long time but it will keep it going for and hour or two depending on how much you want to spend.:smokin:
