There are a few topics around on this exact subject for further reference..but for a quick breakdown

You must apply for permanent residency first before becoming a citizen. The website I realize is completely useless, as it does not articulate this clearly.

So, you go to the nearest Canadian consulate, or the Embassy...whichever is most convenient. Tell them you want to apply for permanent residency, which is the first step towards living here. They will give you a huge application form, you need to complete/submit/wait for it to go through. Once they accept you, they send you a letter, which you then file with your application, and other important documents--see a list of those here:

Once you are accepted you bring all of that stuff ^^ and your letter, and come here. You will have to stop in customs and immigration, so be forewarned, and "plan accordingly" if you catch my drift. If you don't catch it, I'm saying don't bring an assload of contraband and make your stay there uncomfy

Then once you go thru all the immigration and customs stuff..you're home sweet home

You can apply for citizenship after 3 years of permanent residency.
Also, to satisfy the requirements you need to stay in Canada for 3 years in a 5 year period.
Or it might be two. I dunno ask the consulate dude I guess.
Then you can be a citizen.

Hi, I live in the US, I've really been thinking about moving to Canada and living there permanently, I don't really like the US at all... The fact that every country hates us, our leaders are assholes and all corrupt, our laws are bullshit, our crime is ridiculous, and we're slowly turning to police state; as if the constitution doesn't even matter with the shit Bush is doing.
