offshore oil platforms

anyone know anything about working on an offshore oil rig? I've been offered a job from a friend and I'm seriously considering it. I've never done any kind of manual labor like this before, and i know i'd have to quit smoking because of drug testing, but it seems like the kind of adventure I'm after, plus the money is right, about 40,000 at start plus you only work six months out of the year. I'd be working two weeks on the rig then have two weeks off every month. so any info would be appreciated.
