Question about wattage

Do you need same wattage per sq foot for veg as you do while flowering? i am thinking of getting a 400W MH for veg then switch to 600W HPS. Question is if I use same space (12 sq ft) is it ok to use the MH for veg even though it is only giving a little over 30 watt/sq foot. I am thinking of growing them about 2 feet then put them into flower. thanks for any help!

Assuming you have a 3x4 space, then I think your setup is fine... watch your temps and make sure ventilation isnt a problem... you should be fine...

also... depending on how many plants you have, you might want to flower them small in a SoG .. thats assuming you have a veg and flower room

well i was going to build a growbox of interior dimensions of ~3.4x3.4 for flowering and for veging... im not sure if imgoing to sog or scrog yet but ill probably experiment with both eventually. thanks for the reply

no they don't have to be the same but the wattage for the ballast needs to be the same

If you have a 600 watt HPS ballast, you need a 600 Watt MH Conversion bulb

Light seems ok, not great but ok.
However, if you are gonna veg to 2 feet (bit much, he) they will suffer under a 400W LH the last foot or half foot compared to better lighting.
