Actually yams are not sweet potatoes. They are totally different produce although people confuse them all the time.

yams are used frequently in west indian cookery very nice with goat rice and peas..

Most supermarkets and grocery stores here have them, mashed with regular potatoes and pureed parsnips they make gorgeous potato cakes fried on the pan, or oven roasted with garlic and rosemary mmmmmmm feel's like dinner time
