For some unknown reason I can't post in the FAQ section, says I don't have privileges to do so....

So I just post my question here. This is hypothetical btw.... (not a fake i-dont-want-that-feds-on-my-arse hypothetical, but an actual hypothetical)

Everyone seems to be against hermies except for one post I found that I can't remember where it is.
But say you grew like 4 plants and they all turned out male and you had no seeds left, could you stress it with low lights, transplanting badly or light leaks so that it would turn hermie and you could get some seeds from it? via it pollinating itself?

me say no. no scientific explantion.

Try it though and log it in the grow log section.
Every hypothesis should have an experiment behind it.

The FAQ section is for posts that the mod staff have decided are ANSWERS to frequently asked questions.

Yes, in theory you can force a male plant to go hermi on you and get a couple seeds.
But there is another theory s welll, which is that if you only have 2 seeds and you plant both of them in the same pot, assuming they are not 'feminized' seeds from a hermi pollination, one will be male and the other female MOST of the time. I've never seen proof, or a good explanation, but I've done it a few times, and found it to hold true in those cases.

daja vue... I had thoughts about plants growing in synergy with each other. I have it all the time. So, "it can happen"?

Perhaps! It SEEMS to work. Not exactly scientific, but intriguing.
I'd LOVE to see a proper study on this. I think it would make a great masters thesis... anyone going back to grad school for biochem or hort?

I was tired last night so yeah....
So do all hermi seeds turn out female?

One explanation I can think of for the two plants in one pot is that they realise (not that I think they have brains, but some sort of 'biological realise') that their only chance to continue their family is for one to be female and one to be male. Just a guess I'm no expert, only just starting out actually, but I'm just basing it on things like when plants go hermie coz they think it's getting close to winter or whatever coz the weather changes.

I'll try that experiment with the two plants in one pot. Just got my second seeds starting now about 5 of them probably, I somehow lost one in the dirt lol. I'll keep two together and post back here sometime. I don't have the commitment skills to do a log. haha
