Marijuana Group Calls For Pot Lounges In Airports

DENVER -- Members of a Denver-based, pro-marijuana group announced their recommendation to solve the growing problem of alcohol abuse on planes: provide marijuana smoking lounges in airports nationwide.

When U.S. Attorney Troy Eid tackled the topic of people drinking too much on planes Monday, pot wasnâ??t the solution he had in mind, but Mason Tvert with SAFER, Safer Alternative For Enjoyable Recreation, said maybe he should think about it.

"In hopes of quelling the growing concern of drunk and disorderly passengers," said Tvert. He points to the woman arrested at Denver International Airport last week.

Court records show she started smoking a cigarette on the plane, yelled obscenities and punched a flight attendant, then blamed the flight crew for serving her vodka.

"This madness has got to stop and we're providing a very viable solution," said Tvert.

He points to a study showing a strong link between alcohol and increased violence, while cannabis reduces the likelihood of violence.

But officials said there is a major flaw in his plan.

"Until such a time when marijuana is a legal drug, the answer is no. Plain and simple," said Mike Fergus, a Federal Aviation Administration spokesman.

I hate waiting hours on end at airports. This would really make the time pass. Chilling in a lounge puffing on some herb, waiting on your flight. That would be amazing. Smoke a little indica before your flight and sleep like a baby.

Theres flaws in everything. The only flaw I see is the fact I might miss where I get off on my flight.

I'm not for this one actually. We need to move one step at a time, you can't run before you walk. Many activists seem to have missed the big picture of making this available legally to the entire nation.

Activists from states who are currently MMJ states should focus their energy in helping their neighboring states also become Legal. Once it becomes the norm in the nation then things like this will become much easier to pass.

Until the majority of the nation is MMJ people are going to look at ideas like this as if you're crazy and assume you only want to get high or that you're a low life stereotype.

People advocating things like this I feel are counter productive to the cause. I'm sure their hearts are in the right place but unfortunatley in this political world you have to make baby steps if you want to make any progress at all.

Besides.. it's far too easy to make edibles and eat it before you fly or even some Green Dragon for that matter :stoned:

I am with dailihashi on that one. Even if the United States united and did something. The big problem will be closed minded cigarette smokers that also use marijuana.

Which has been my experience (with a limited, narrow minded group, hopefully different with mmj group-here) My bros smoke cigs from addiction and marijuana because they 'like it!' and that will be the problem. The have no clue or cannot understand the medicinal properties of marijuana. It drys up what cigs moisten and force to drain! If I am around cig. smoke and the room has been sprayed with something, I cannot smell it, I am sick from exposure, anyway and that night! I do not even know it was in the room and I get allergic bonchitis, asap! Unless I happen to medicate for somethihng else before it is too late!

I think they should allow use in the air! Those that aren't asleep, soon will be from second hand, if only that would work. Doubt, it'll become legal, might accidenly medicate, someone who needs it!

I'm for legalization not only for medical purposes but also recreational. This article, to me, basically states the irony that people can get drunk before a flight but watch out for them pot sniffing dogs.

Hell, an old girlfriend of mine and her daughters were going to Mexico for a wedding. They FIRST went to the doctor proclaiming that they had such a fear of flying that they needed an "airline downer" to ease the anxiey. Well, they all got their pill for the flight down and one for the flight back. On the way to the airport the "big joke" was how fucked up they'd all be after their stop at the airport bar mixed with their pill.

I know that a toking lounge is FAR off but what an idea.

    Have a good one!
