My tinfoil hat might be on a bit tight but I think this race baiting is all just a mass distraction. It's just like the left vs. the right, atheists vs. Christians, terrorism, etc. The people in power are just trying to take your mind off of real issues such as the swindling of the American populace, war profiteering, oil profiteering, and corporatism.

Seriously, the very existence of "Black History Month" is an insult. Its like saying that the black people in this country have only contributed a months worth of history to the world. We can sum up all the history of the African Americans in one month (and its the shortest of all the months too). There should be no black history, no white history, no Asian history, and no Hispanic history, there should just be history. All this separation only serves to drive a spike in our consciousness telling us on almost a subliminal level that YES we are different people and maybe we shouldn't mingle.
I think IrieIrie makes a good basic point with the procreation thing, if you can copulate with someone and produce offspring that means you are of the same species, fucking end of story.

I feel like this pisses me off (a middle class white boy) more that it bothers most black people (or any other ethnicity for that matter). I asked some black kids on the bus one February if they felt black history month was an insult, and they didn't seem to get what i was saying, i guess they never thought about it.

I kinda feel like I'm the guy who "doth protest too much", but I'm really not some kind of closet racist I just cant abide a double standard. Someone post about weather or not its fair to label girls "slutty" and ill freak out in the same way.

Black History Month? Yes I'm a white American who grew up in a melting pot and we all walked the same halls played the same games no BS. What living together in PEACE is not good enough? I think the point of something like Black History Month or special programs on TV related to black history is to draw attention to American historial contributions of black poeple that might be ignored in mainstream history. I'm not sure what these shows are about exactly, because I haven't watched them. But if anybody here did watch them, were the people and events they talked about something that you already knew about from mainstream history? Or was it something that you had never heard of before? If it was something you had never heard of before, then maybe it had some value.

Some of this promotion of a single cultural perspective IS divisive and not helpful. For example, I don't think blacks need their own National Anthem --- it's one nation and needs only one anthem.

But I can understand the black history thing. It's fine to say we are all one nation and we have one history, but if I was part of a subgroup who felt the contributions of my group were ignored in mainstream history, I would think someone was blowing a bunch of smoke up my ass with the "one culture" thing, and I would want my history known.

The idea of a White History Month is absurd because virtually all of our history is about white people and their history. How would White History Month be any different from the history taught every single day, month after month?

im stuck right now, my life is swirling around a big toilet bowl, my boss hates me, and wont approve a transfer, and i am WAY losing the battle in being a husband and father..
If i do, i might be crashing in my car in a walmart parking lot for awhile.. then get a GYM membership for a shower/ that or a truck stop
