I Need Advive & Input

Ok my plants are goin on their 6th week... about, maybe 5th. Either way, they are 10" now. I thought they would be a lil bigger by now, but hey... I was wondering.... Does anyone think I should go ahead and start flowering? I have a 250w HPS, for flower and they are under 7 CFL's now. I know they are a lil small but maybe its cause I topped em about a week ago. Ill post pics either 2marrow or later this evenin. Gotta get a good camera.

Hey frenzi,

They sound about the right height for their age considering you've topped them, it's good to have them short and stocky you don't want lanky plants.

Most growers will tell you to wait until the plant is sexually mature before switching to 12/12 as flowering earlier can reduce yield and potency. A sign of maturity is when the plant produces alternating nodes (the leaves don't grow out of the stem side by side but with a gap between them "alternating")

Hey Hudson,

Thanx for the info. One of my plants started off alternating and the other one has 3 sets of leaves. Its not normal, most plants start out with 2 leaves mine sprouted with 3 starters and just kept on goin from there... Weird!

One of em is already showin sex.... Its A Girl! And the other Im hoping for a Girl. It looks like its startin to show pistils.

If you topped them a week ago, i have read it is important to wait at least another week(two weeks total) before you flower them. So they can get accustomed to their new shape. They'll like that 250 HPS shining on them when the time comes:thumbsup:

One more thing... How far from the HPS should i have my plants? And should my passive intake be bigger than the exhaust?

It's hard to give a measurement for how far away your light should be, basically it all depends on your temps and air circulation. I'd try to start at about 18-24" if your temps allow (no higher than 80F at the tops of the plants) then try to get it lower over the next couple of weeks if you can, be careful tho, keep your eye on the temps and look out for signs of heat stress.

Yeah i've read your passive intake should be twice the size of your exhaust, my grows in a tent and for most of the time my passive intake is the same size as my exhaust but if it gets a little hot i can open another vent in the tent and the temps drop a couple degrees.

once again.. thnx hudson. you seem to help on most of my probs. thanx for the advice and i apprecieate it. do you think that if i were to put a mini swam cooler at the bottom by my intake that it would help lower the temps?
