bad timing this afternoon. gas was $3.84 a gallon when i pulled into the parking lot of the station. as i got out of the truck and was getting ready to swipe the debit card, i look over and notice that a store employee has climbed the ladder, on the gigantic sign post next to the store, and changed the price to $3.94. sucks.

oh, um.. hi everybody. long time since i've posted.

    It was $4.69!

(Just pennies under $50 for a fill up- ouch! ) When I was in college last time, I did a paper on the price of our local gas- only place higher was Hawaii!

And do you guys know about this very cool site? (Granny's always got a site! )

GasBuddy.com - Find Low Gas Prices in the USA and Canada

I use it every time I take a "more than local" trip!

No two ways about it, things are going to get worse before they get better! Gas WILL hit $5 around Xmas. Are you ready? Got a bike, motorcycle or can you carpool? Plan your car use- no more just popping out to buy a few sodas. And take note of those "mileage tricks" you can do to increase your MPG.

I'm increasing the size of my veggie garden- food prices will only go up. Heavy on big winter squash, onions, etc- keepers. Salad stuff and melons, too. Some in pots to take in come fall. Wish I was where I could keep chickens! (Garbage in- eggs and meat out! )

I have these big metal popcorn tins that are great to store flour in- each one holds 15 lbs of flour (regular, bread & whole wheat). I have 2 each of bread and regular (whole wheat can go bad with long storage) and plenty of yeast and baking powder. Oatmeal, corn meal and beans the same way. If you see something that keeps (and you use) at a good price, stock up and store it properly.

With global warming, weather disasters will continue to hit us. Are you ready?

Can you amuse yourself when the power is off? Is your house all electric or gas? Do you have an extra pack of toilet paper and buckets to hold water? Do you have an "emergency kit" and a food stash (enough nonperishables for a month- frozen doesn't count)? Don't forget the pets- do they have a food stash? If you take meds, do you have extra for an emergency? Does your family have a plan of where to go and/or who grabs what?

Guys, a day or two thinking and acting now, could save you a whole lot of grief later! The Boy Scouts are right about being prepared.

Ugh, I hate how inflated the gas prices have become. It's anywhere from $1.30-1.40 a liter in my area of Ontario, Canada. It costs me $60 to fill my tank most of the time, and I generally only let it get down to just below a quarter tank.

I found this little retro red & white bike so I just ride that most places. Riding my bike baked it quite the adventure!!
