    your thoughts on miracles

i wanted to hear what some people have to think about miracles...

i have a friend who suffers (suffered) from a deadly disease called cystic fibrosis which pretty much destroys your lungs. she recently went to a christian meeting in florida where supposedly physical miracles were taking place. to make a long story short, the preacher dude was calling out miracles that were taking place and as he called out cystic fibrosis she felt a sensation in her lungs likened to a tightness being released.

since then she has come off of oxygen (which she needed throughout the day and all night while sleeping), breathing treatments (medicinal based), enzymes for food digestion (which she couldn't eat without), and a number of other things.

i personally do not believe in the christian faith but i cannot deny that my friend who was deathly (literally) sick is now fine. she will be going to a doctor for verification in july (soonest she could get an appointment).

my best guess is that it is related to a belief that she was healed which led to a change in the physical of a scale i have never encountered.

i'm just curious as to what some of you think about it... i will be even more convinced once (if) she gets medical verification... either way something pretty amazing transpired.

    your thoughts on miracles

Well... i was born and raised in a Christian Church, and knew lots of people who were spiritually cured of all kinds of diseases, many of them incurable. Their doctors would be very awed, and many doctors conceded that the only explanation was calling it miracles.
But there was one that i witnessed myself. My grandma had a serious health problem (dont remember what), and had an irreversible neuron loss, to the point that she behaved like a zombie. She didnt know nobody, she couldnt speak coherently, she pissed at herself... she lost completly her mind, and was actually a zombie.
But my parents, who are very religious, didnt give up, and kept praying for her to become normal again. It was scientifically impossible, as you know neurons does not regenerate themselves.
And yet... after months of being a zombie, her mind started to come back, and back... and she regained it completly! She returned to be who she was, she regained all her reason, and thinking, everything! Even after the doctor had said that her condition was irreversible.
So, yes, i do believe in miracles, cause i witnessed them.
And i also believe in the Christian faith. Even if now im astray, if someday i decide to follow any faith again, surely it will be the Christian faith.

Miracles of nature, perhaps, but why bring "God" into the picture? If miracles were from god, why would he choose one person over another? Seems like a rather shallow concept to believe in, not to mention how fickle a god you choose to credit with the miraculous.

People miraculously regain health without any religious intervention. It's not a miracle. It's just uncommon.

People can psychologically make themselves sick. Im sure then they would be able to psychologically heal themselves as well. The brain is pretty powerful.

Without wanting to upset anyone, I can't believe people today still believe in miracles and acts of god. It's like some people have been brainwashed and conditioned to believe in silly superstitions. I wish they would ban religious advertisign and make evangelism ilelgal, evryone is entitled to their own beliefs but churches shouldn't be allowed to try and convert non-believers and recruit new followers, that way this stupid superstition based on nothing more than myth and rumour that is clled Christianity will finally die out, what place is there in the modern world for the creation myth when we now have the knowledge of evolution and how the earth was formed? People should be free to believe what they want, but they shouldn't be allowed to foist their beliefs on others.

Well actually we only have theories to explain how the earth was formed. Evolution is just a theory, not a fact. And anyway, facts are dangerous. They are just mental shortcuts. Trying to tell people to shut up with their religious views because they are wrong and evolution is right is the same thing as (and possibly worse than) what you are complaining about.
