there are a few strains that have a very distinct smell, unmistakable but these aren't common the only two I think of that I could definatly identify is grapefruit and bubblegum, if you have had either of those before you will know that you are smoking it.

But most weed just smells like weed, you can still enjoy the different flavours tastes and highs without slapping a label on it. Names are names it could be called happy infanticide bud for all I care as long as it's a good smoke I'm happy. On the other hand if the supplier can tell me what strain it is I am always intrested to know because if it is something special I will try and grow it.

Now hashish that is far easier to identify. Pollem, lebonese, morrocan all easy to indentify.
