So when we want to do something, for example, to type one key at the keyboard, our thinking mind sends a command to the doing part, like "hit such key with such finger", and the doing part calculates the tension needed to be reached by each muscle to accomplish the movement, and send the nervous signal to the muscles that actually make you type the key.
But this doing part does not work only for concrete actions, but also for abstract ones. So if your thinking mind commands your doing mind to follow an objective like "fail in everything i try", the doing mind will do anything at its disposition to ensure that the this order of the thinking mind be obeyed. The doing mind does not think (cause its the job of the thinking mind), only does whatever the thinking mind tells it to do.
And this doing mind has control not only over our muscles, but over our entire body, through nerves that connect every organ, the blood that carries substances that change the way that the organs and tissues works (like neurotransmitters, hormones, etc), etc... so depending on the commands that the thinking mind gives to it, the doing mind can improve or impair our health, due its great influence over the workings of the body.
It was taken as an explanation for the called "miracles" obtained by the use of the (today called) law of attraction, what i would rather call as positive thinking, well as for the called psychosomatic disorders.
As it made sense for me when i did read it, i started to believe in it, and my own experience started to confirm the validity of it in such astounding ways that i was convinced very soon. I achieved things beyond my wildest expectations just by wishing whole heartedly and believing that i could achieve them... and then i learned what is the base of the law of the attraction (how the intent creates reality), and it did even more sense, so i was really convinced.
And the evidences from the study of the physics are even deeper:

Before the measurement, the atomic particles does NOT have defined physical properties, so they can be anything. For example, a quantum coin. While a normal (called classical) coin can be either heads or tails, a quantum coin before a measurement (before you look it to see if its tails or heads) is heads, and tails, and every mixture of heads and tails at the same time. Only when you look at it the coin becomes one definite thing, tails or heads.
It limits enormously the amount of knowledge we can have about the universe. Only the things that are being (or were) observed (and thus measured) have defined physical proprierties, that can be calculed upon, and understood as being cause or effect of other things. So, everything that was not measured is an imprevisible variable, and thus outside the realm of scientific explanation.
After noticing this fundamental limitation of the usual physics i lost the interest in it, and become interested in other things that could give me explanations about this (physically) imprevisible things.
Also, the fact that the measurement changes the thing being measured is the clearest proof of the influence of the mind over the reality itself. Cause measurement is observation. When we look at anything, we are in a certain way measuring its properties (position, velocity, etc). So, before an observation the quantum coin was in a state (a mixture of everything), and the act of observing it changed its state to a heads (or tails) state. The state of the coin was changed because we percieved (observed) the coin. The perception is a thing done by the mind, so we can say that our mind changed the state of the coin, or in other words, changed the reality (as we could say that the state of the coin is real).
We can go further and realize that as the physical properties of any quantum particle only are defined after we measure them, we can say that our perception (measurement) creates the physical properties. As the physical properties of the objects are what define them, and most humans usually take the physical objects as being "the reality", then we can say that the reality is created by our perception, what is not a new idea at all, but was said already by ancient sages long ago... but only recently it was aknowledged by the science (even if most scientists are not aware of this aknowledgement hidden in the fundaments of the quantum mechanics.)
