This is amazing... I was checking out one of Montreal's french newspaper, and on the front page of the Arts and Entertainment section (must've been a slow day...) was the story of the Numa Numa kid! I swear, I kept the section, it's freaking hilarious.

The reason they wrote about the story was because the Star Wars kid, that fat geek who treid to do his own lightsaber fight (http://www.maninasuit.com/movies/index.html), was from a town about 1 hour away from Montreal, and the reprter was wondering what exactly makes fads like these spread like wildfire...

in a slightly different view, do you think these people know they look like idiots? or are they hoping while they post these videos 'oh how I hope they like it! I think I look really good dancing like that'?

Something like this happened to me. In high school, a friend happened to get a clip of me doing a stupid-looking dance (hey, I'm just a white guy), and he threatened to release it on the Internet for some reason. It did get out and I know there's someone in northern Canada who at one time had the only undeleted copy. I assume it's gone by know but who knows...

So maybe it was released by an evil friend of the person doing the stupid dance, or somebody he pissed off who got a hold of the video.
