Besides the obvious "abandoning your child" thing, what really pisses me off about this story is that there are so many better places where the mother could have dropped this child off (if she really feels she can't care for him). A police station, church, fire station, hospital, etc., anythings better than this. What if the poor little child would have been abducted or worse? There is no excuse for this.
She probably just didn't know and thought to drop him off in a place where she knows a lot of people will be to find him. She is in a foreigner in a strange land with no money after all. It is still a pretty irresponsible thing to do though.
