American caught at border with marijuana worth $57,000
An American man was arrested near the Mexican border after being caught with almost 143 pounds of marijuana in his car Tuesday night.

Luis Demara-Campas, 21, stopped at the Amada checkpoint, south of Tucson, at about 7:45 p.m.

When agents pulled him into a secondary checkpoint, Demara-Campas fled in the vehicle.

Agents caught up with his white 2002 Dodge Neon and stopped him on Interstate 19.

Six bundles of marijuana were found hidden inside the trunk of Demara-Campas' car.

Agents estimate the value of the haul to be over $57,000.

The driver and the car were turned over to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
