Feminized Seeds. (cannabible content)
"in recent years, certain seed companies have begun selling "feminized seeds" which if made properly, grow only female plants. there is much confusion on the subject, so allow me to clarify. feminized seeds, apparently highly beneficial to those wih limited space or growing limited numbers of plants, are usually made in one of two ways. in the first method, approximaely two weeks prior to flowering a female plan is treated with the substance gibberellic acid. this process is repeated when the plan begins flowering. shortly thereafter, hermaphroditic flowers will appear on the plant, which will then pollinate itself [ and any other females around ] creating only female seeds. the second method involves shocking the plant by screwing wih its light cycle in ways that mother naure never would, causing the plant to throw our hermaphroditic flowers pollinating itself and any other female around, again creating only female seeds.
i dont recommend feminized seeds or either of these methods for the following reasons. they are very unnatural. gibberellic acid is very toxic and nasty stuff. and most importantly these methods encourage hermaphroditism in the strain. i see i all he time wih feminized plants. hermies are a built in function of the evolutionary plan, put in place to ensure the continuation of a species even in the face of massive environmental changes which the plants might think was happening if the light started tweaking out as described.
another thing about feminized seeds and i know that DJ Short agrees with me on this one, is that the finished product is noticeably blander in flavor and aroma. neither of us has yet to be impressed with feminized seeds. one possible explanation for this is that those who use feminized seeds and those who produce them are less likely to use organic methods. the verdic. if you want all females, grow known and reputable female clones".
i thought this was an interesting article. also, i am new to growing and my friend told me to never buy seeds through mail orders anyways. why is that? is it risky? i have some sour diesel and pineapple genetics i got from a bag that i plan on starting with anyways.incaroads Reviewed by incaroads on . Gibberellic acid is classified as being far less toxic than aspirins and is, in fact, virtually non-toxic and that puts it in the same category as table salt.

this is kind of depressing, considering my only good strains came out of different bags of high grade hermie buddies

Unnatural...? Perhaps to some folks. I've done it, I do it, and will continue to do it. Hermaphrodism is a genetic trait to gurantee the plants survival. When done properly there is no difference in your grow, except you know they'll be females. To be on the safe side, I don't breed my femmed seeds. I keep a stock of clean (not femmed) seeds. Have never had a problem. (except for the occational unwanted pollen release, lol)

The 'organic' statement is the kicker...I love the way it's presented...how, to them, folks that feminize seeds aren't nearly as likely to properly care for their ladies as those with other methods of breeding...? Simply moronic, and assumes a lot about makers of femmed seeds, the growers of femmed seeds, and those that don't grow organically.
To me, it sounds like a Billy Mays commercial of half-truths to sell their own product.
Would get a new friend. They are easy to come by, and some of 'em are even right on occation.

edit: Bagseed are a great way to learn. Especially if you know for sure what strain it was, and how good the final product performed.
Keep in mind tho...if there were seeds in the bag, they could either be the result of a careless grower, or the grower unknowingly stressed the lady enough to make her own (femmed) seeds, lol.
