    Home Security System

My wife would like to have a home security system installed to give her peace of mind when she's at home alone at night. Also, i suppose it'd be nice to have a bit of a lock down when we're away.

I've done some searching and found pros and cons concerning Home Security Systems and Indoor Grow Rooms. What do you all think about it? is it a bad idea?

If the alarm goes off...and we aren't home...will the cops search the whole house and find my shit? that's definitely no good.

Is there a better way to secure my home from pranksters and hooligans while not leaving my Grow Op in jeopardy?

I know everyone will say get a dog. That's not an option for me. sorry.

    thanks in advance,

when the alarm goes off the company calls you to make sure nothing is wrong and you are home. If no one answers they call the local police and they come out. I don't think they go inside the house unless someone has gained entry. If a window or door has been busted open they they will most likely go in due to probable cause. At that point I would hope your stuff is locked up in a cab with a locked door. If the thief tries to open the door which he most likely wont because the alarm in going off and will be scared, then the police can check that room out as well. If the room remains locked then they can't go in.

Just get an ADT sign or sticker and put them all over your house.

The fire alarm one could end up with the local FD in your house! While for some of us ladies, that might be a rather nice change from the pool boy or the mailman, neither of whom put much effort into weight training, for others, it might be a problem.

As for my own security system... here she is.
(I've had 3 break-ins, THAT I KNOW ABOUT, in the last 4 years)

I am a Home Alarm Install/Service tech. It does play a risk of the cops showing up uninvited. You dont have to have the alarm hooked to report to the montoring station.. And most companys will call you @ home or at a alter number to verify if its a emergancy or false alarm..

Are you in the US, and if so what state?

P.S. I have given systems to my friends, and when the alarm goes off. Its calls them on their cell phone or any other number I program.. They all smoke weed and dont wont the cops around.. Just the LOUD as hell sirens!!

if you live in IN, IA,IL, or WI maybe we can work something out:stoned:

Make good freinds with your neigbors. If I see someone snoopin around my neighbors house when their not around,I ask"wassup brah? you lookin for somebody?"
I think the bestsecurity is having a big ass family.we get chokest people at our house,Anybody even think about trying to rob us is gonna be in for a big suprise.

Some added things you can do,Go to the thrift store and buy some big dirty construction boots and leave um outside your door.People coming up to your house will see and be like "must have some big dude in there."
Here in hawaii its custom to take your shoes off before entering your house,so you can kinda judge whose home by looking outside the door at how many shoes/slippahs are out there.
My freind get automatic timer on his tv and stereo,he set um for when he goes.So at least there is noise coming from the house,if you get automatic timers for your lights too.

HOLY shit.. 700 bucks.. Our systems are all wireless (unless we're talking over an Hardwire system, and we use existing hardwired working equipment + ours) and we charge 39.99 a month to be monitored and the system with all equipment is free and so is the installation..

    Nothing but HONEYWELL equipment!!

damn, anyone wanting a system for trade in the above mentioned area, we need to talk

    Thanks for the replies everyone.

I think i'll go for the 'passive' alarm route. There was a system already installed in our house when we moved in. It isn't connected to the monitoring service so yeah, it'd just go off and hopefully scare 'em away. The only contacts are on the front and back door and one obscure window in the back of the house. There's a motion sensor in the living room but we never use it because they say our cats would set it off (what good is it then???) we had service when we first moved in because the previous owner had a 2 year contract he had to honor and they wouldn't move the system for him so he prepaid it and we got to use it.

The service is now over and i suppose my question should have been worded more like this: "should i continue the monitoring service now that i'm growing?"

I think i'll just stick with the scare tactics. although i'd like to get a few more sensors / window break detectors / a motion sensor that won't be set off by a small cat.

illnillinois, any thoughts on that? i'm in NY so i don't think we'd be able to hook up. It's a hardwired system requiring a home phone for communications. We don't have a home phone anymore so there isn't communication anyways. Any thoughts on how i could get a wireless communicator and program it to call my phone? that'd be super duper. i can provide model numbers and what not.

thanks for all the insights, sorry for the confusion.

    Skeet.

PS - i like the boots idea, sounds like you roll with a pretty tight bunch.

If you have people within seeing distance of your house then the scare tactic will work.
