If you smoke for medicinal reasons, why?

Severe anxiety, uncontrolled mood swings (eh... not that you wanted to know, but I was once prescribed Zoloft for- get this- PMS. What a disaster that was), occasional panic attacks.
I distrust OTC meds, ESPECIALLY psych meds that have not been in use for a long time. I feel that the pressure to scoot new pharmaceuticals through the FDA approval process, in order to put them on the shelves faster and recoup the high costs of their development, is counter to the whole purpose of that process, which is to protect the end user from dangerous side effects.

Edit: I don't consider the urge to eat pretzels dipped in ranch dressing, neither of which I even LIKE, to be a dangerous side effect.

If you smoke for medicinal reasons, why?

    Social anxiety
Mood swings (anger.. usually due to the above condition)
chronic Neck pain (subluxation in my neck)
chronic Joint pain (from years of running and boxing)
And lately abdominal pains (doctors have found nothing wrong.. debating paying $400-600 to test for Crohns).
To keep my focus (undiagnosed Adult ADD I'm guessing)

In addition I just enjoy it.

Cannabis relieves all of that I would say anywhere from 95-100%. It allows me to feel like I'm a normal person.

When you're in pain.. the pain can be so intense it's almost crippling. I'm not sure how well I would function without it, although admittingly I'm not as bad off as some people who definitely need it.

When I was 3, another child (5?) snapped and came at me with a hammer. He did a number on my head. I was left with scars, dents in my skull and migraines.

When I was 19, I found that cannabis stopped the migraines! I have used whenever possible ever since. I did attempt to not use for a period of about 3 (hellish) years. Even my boss was telling me to go see a doctor.

I went, got tested, and was told I "just" have migraines! I looked at the list of possible side effects for the medicine they wanted me to take. :wtf: I went and got "legal". No unpleasant (or fatal) side effects with cannabis- just feeling good and the munchies- I can deal with that!

At 60, I also have a touch of arthritis and (compliments of my bipolar mother) definite mood swings that cannabis smooths out. Cannabis kept me reasonably mellow during menopause (I didn't murder anyone, I swear!) and takes care of the hubby's aches and pains, which makes my life easier.

And I just noticed it is past 4:20, so I'm late for my "brownie" and pipe with the hubby! - Bye!- Granny:hippy:

Sssh- Don't tell anyone, but I smoke it cuz I LIKE it!!1! My med issues do make it somewhat legit, tho- HepC, Lung cancer, Hern. disc/sciatica, 2 heart attacks, and bi-lateral kidney stones. But I'd smoke even if I didn't, so ha-ha.

When I was going through chemo I used it to get hungry and to help with body pains.

Now I use it for my bipolar. It really takes away my anxiety also.

Hope this doesn't take you by surprise, but smoking if you've had heart attacks and lung cancer ain't the best idea in the world. You ought to be vaping instead. Smoked cannabis is anything but heart-healthy. THC is lung-healthy, but the rest of the crap you're inhaling with it isn't. Looks like you've got it justified to yourself, but you're not ever going to convince anyone with real medical training that your medical issues justify smoking it. Vaping or eating it, more likely yes. Not smoking.

Some very good advice from the good Doctor. The vaporizer you get today may lengthen, or save, your life tomorrow.
