That is interesting, it is hard to imagine plants actually sucking light out of the air, competing with each other.

Thus, you will get better yield per plant with less plants under the lights. However, this doesn't mean total yield will be less, as SOG method are popular and nifty. Less plants also means more chance of males though.
All 4 should be fine while in veg under eight 23 watters. In flower, you may want to swap half of the bulbs with 42watters (the next size up from 23 if you buy at a common store)
