    Second grow log, obviously

Hey guys and gals, after a hiatus from the forums due to moving and finishing school I am back for another installment of cmasfca's dumbass attempting to grow some pot

This is technically my third grow, but let's just not talk about my second. I didn't devote nearly enough time to my babies and they sure showed it.

A little advice to everyone pondering the idea of moving while in the middle to late stages of flowering. DON'T! IT'S ALL BAD!

As nerve wracking as it was to empty my reservoir, cover my babies in a sheet and put them in the back of my car while holding my reflector on my lap for a 15 minute drive; the real kick to my gut was when I got them successfully into my new place, set it all up, and discovered my biggest girl had somehow snapped clean from her roots at the base of her stalk.

This forced me to harvest her early, deficient, and unflushed. Because she was by far my biggest girl, it wasn't worth it to keep the others so I harvested my whole crop the day after I moved in. It was one of the most depressing times I've experienced in awhile to see how small and airy the buds were. I wish the pain would end there, but it is all I am left with to smoke until my harvest of this grow. I have 2 full masonry jars of the bud so hopefully it will last.

Enough of that talk! I got this sweet new apartment that has a walk in closet so it is much easier to get to and seal off my grow.

My grow specs are as follows:
    1 400w HPS w/ reflector
25 gallon rubbermaid w/ 15 gallons of solution
Aquarium pump pushing water through 3 nozzles that run down the middle of the rubbermaid giving me a nice sprinkler effect right onto the net pots, rockwool, and roots
Air pump w/ half of a airstone (half of it just broke off, I'm planning on getting a replacement)

    Strains:
    4 Strawberry Cough 80/20 sativa/indica
    4 Mazar 100% indica

I have had the new babies in the system for 5 days now, since the 3rd of June.

They are all looking good and perky expect for one of the strawberry girls who is droopy. Does anyone have any thoughts as to why it could be?

Thanks for the help guys and gals, I'm feeling better about this grow already; maybe that's just the shitty sour diesel working:stoned:

    I forgot to mention:

    Ph: 5.8
    PPMs: 200; 100 calmag 100 progrow
Temp: 85-87F (I know, it's hot! How can I cool it down? My closet door is all the way open with a fan on the ground for intake, and three others in with the girls.

Hey cm.....how great to see you on the boards. Sorry to hear about your last grow but glad you got something out of it anyway.

Your strawberry cough girl there either looks too hot or overnuted. Whats the background on that strain do you know? I'm growing an Arjan's Strawberry Haze right now and am having to go a bit light on the nutes with her but I don't know how closely related my plant is to yours......she's from seed and I'm thinking yours are clones correct?

Can you put a bit of shade over her? See if that will fix it for you.....if she is a clone she may just need some time to adjust to your lighting.

edit: just read your temps....that may well be her problem....just not used to those kind of temps (still thinking clone here correct? )

Besides saying the strain is a mix from northeastern US and Europe, all I've found on her says she likes nutes early on in the vegetative cycle.

I would put money on it being that it is too hot, around 85-87 right now. My saving grace is that the air in there is really moving! My hand is comfortable at the top of the leaves because of the breeze. Maybe my thermometer isn't catching any of it, so it is just sitting under my 400w.

They are all clones, so that plus the temperature is probably what's going on. I'm going to the hydro store today to pick up some sort of enzyme. My res temp is 80.24F so the enzyme should help prevent root rot.

What type of shade would you suggest? One of those cocktail umbrellas in the rockwool sound good? :stoned: oops:jointsmile:

Thanks for the reply WH, you infatuate me with your greenthumb

No then they start acting all giggly and silly and it's not a pretty picture. I think you are right as well and it is heat......200 is certainly not anything near overnute level anyway.

Interesting your are talking root rot here.....I've been having quite a few issues with it myself lately due to my cannazym getting too old and some other lovely tricks I pulled on my (now dead) plants. What enzyme are you planning on or just going to pick tidbits? Let me know what you end up using.

Well my plans for a morning hydro run have been mashed because they're closed on Sundays, but I was just planning on talking it over with the hydro guys there and see what they recommend.

Dead plants? As in pre-harvest induced death? Do you have a thread where I could read about it? I'm sorry that's too bad

Your res temp is too high also. Water chiller's are expensive so what i have heard works is putting a fan blowing on your res. It should drop the temp by a few degrees. Also You could move the res out of your closet and then just run some hose into the closet that way the res will be in a cooler place.

Also you may want to air cool your hood if at all possible. And exhaust the hot air outside of the closet.

    Anyways Good luck:thumbsup:

Because of the thickness of the reservoir I highly doubt a fan would cool it down. My entire setup is self enclosed, meaning that the sprinklers water the plants and the solution goes from there straight back into the reservoir. Maybe the picture will help.

The hood is cooled by a 6 inch fan from radio shack hooked to an air vent that exhausts at the top of the closet. I've been thinking about how I'm going to exhaust it out of there while still keeping functionality of the closet in mind.

I wish I could grow in the garage:wtf:

So I went to the hydro store today and got Liquid Karma as well as Hydroguard. Added both in at around 30 ppms each giving me 260 ppms now. Ph is at 6.0, temperature around 78-85F. Reservoir temperature is around 80F as well, so I'm going to be adding in frozen 2liter bottles to cool things off starting tomorrow.

I also picked up this little tent sort of thing to put in my closet as well as the squirrel cage fan for my exhaust. This simplifies and eliminates my cooling issues. I picked up an air conditioner from target as well but the damn thing generates at least as much heat as it does cool air. Thinking of a way to duct the cool air into my tent so I can keep the hot parts away.

The droopy girl is under watered I think as well as over heated. My reasoning is that the top part of the rockwool and hydroton was dry around the area where the sprinklers can't reach. I've supplemented her watering by pouring a couple cupfuls twice a day, so I'm expecting her to pick herself up soon.

How do they look? Impressions, suggestions, comments are appreciated. Smoke away:smokin::stoned:
