Hi everyone,

I am a once-every- 2 month smoker ....haden't smoked for a couple months then at a buddies 40th bday party, a bubbler came my way and I took one good hit. I felt it, but by no means was super stoned, as it really was only one hit.

Anyway, a week went by...I exercised everyday, I'm slim, eat healthy, drink lots of water, etc..... then this morning (8 days later) the life insurance medical examiner showed up...I completely forgot she was coming.....and I gave a blood and urine sample.

My 2 concerns are:

- do you think its possible it may be out of my system? Below the testing threshold???

- if it's not out, and I test positive, what is worst case scenario? Can they contact my employer and let them know? Or will they merely deny me coverage???


Any help much appreciated !!!

Why would a life insurence company contact your employer?

Is this a "key man" policy?

no it's not a keyman policy....just a regular, individual life insurance plan..... I don't have any specific reason to think my employer would be contacted.....I'm just a little paranoid

No they can not contact your employer. And they should not be testing for drugs anyway unless your policy specifically spells out what they are testing for. Read your policy and see what it says.
Given how much you smoked you should be clean anyway.

Thanks for the replies..... I have no idea what they are testing for but it spells out in the application that it may be anything from HIV to hepatitis to blood lipid profiles to nicotene to prescription medications and to "drugs of abuse".... so I'm assuming pot is one of their tests.....

I just hope its the 50 ng/ml cutoff test rather than the more accurate 15 ng/ml....

For medical UA's for insurance companies ALWAYS use a synthetic urine. This is one of the main reasons Spectrum Labs markets theres. Its none of the insurance companies business what existing conditions you might or might not have. They use it so they don't have to cover any pre-existing condition you have. Why would you want medical insurance if they don't cover whats wrong with you? I would like to see a small sticky educating people about the perils of using your own urine for insurance purposes.
Only your Dr. needs those results.
