    What do you remember?

Mr. Mary and I were smoking some of the best hash and weed that we've ever had over the weekend. He is considerably older than me and he was talking about how great hash was in the 70's, and how easy it was to find. Then, he said he can remember ounces of chronic weed for $40!!! in the mid 70's.

I'm only 30, so I can only remember prices as far back as the early 90's, when chronic was $35 a quarter. Mids were $25.

Just wondering what some of the older stoners here can remember from years ago.

LOl My Husband is also considerably older and hung out in the jazz scene back in the Miles Davis days. He remembers a dime bag being $10.00 (1/4 oz). He also remembers segregation in the US Army and the race riots of the 60's. He's got some great stories. He's partied from Germanyand Austria to Portugal, Brazil,Mexico and most of the US.

I was there too, did the green acid at Woodstock ($2.00/hit), an oz went for $20.00, and sometimes you'd get hold of really good shit that'd have you seeing those patterns; 2 or 3 people to a joint. I remember buying ounces of hash for around $90.00 in the early 70's, and buying pounds of grass for $150.00. We smuggled it in our parachutes, thought that was really cool. Black guys always seemed to have the best reefer, and A-Gold was the "gold" standard. Coke, crack, angel dust were unheard of. I searched all night in Portchester for a junkie once, just to try heroin, and figured out that it was too seductive to try it a second time. Lucky me. We were so naive; you guys today are more sophisticated than we could have ever hoped to be. One of the guys in a band I was in introduced me to crystal meth, and I spent the night/morning building a wah pedal for my guitar rig, after the jam session was over and everybody had gone home. Those days were primitive by todays standards, but for Christ's sake, we had fun. A bloody nose was as politically correct as it got; many of us carried weapons, but we seldom, if ever, used them (I know I didn't).

We were re-writing history, and knew it; the so-called youth movement actually seemed to have half a chance, civil rights and other causes were making progress, music and arts were undergoing quantum leaps, and it looked like there was light at the end of the tunnel after all. Apathy, the yuppies, Moral Majority, Generation X, greed, etc., turned it all ass-end-to, probably for a very long time. You "kids", and I use the term with respect, have no idea what was lost in the last 30 or so years.

I remeber when weed used to be smuggled from the usa into canada, not vice versa. I remember when primo hash was 10 bucks canadian a gram. I only smoked hash from 1989-92. Then the hydro came around and good hash disapeared, never to return. I also remember when acid was everywhere. Micro dots and blotters of all kinds. I remember when a rave was called a warehouse party, and they played acid house.

    Howdy MJM,

I joined the hippy revolution in '72,I went from having a flat-top hair-cut,to growing my hair out and parting it down the middle,I started wearing bell-bottoms and other hippy attire,my old man didn't like it,but my brother and I,stood our ground. I was the only guy in highschool with a goatee, and the principal dang sure didn't like it,but my old man stood up for me..and I never did shave it off. I jumped in,with both feet, into being a hippy freak and doing dang near every kind of weed and drug,I could git my hands on..lol.

We had panama red and acapulco gold, oaxacan and skunk,as well as cheap mexican weed. We got the good stuff, for 40-60 for an oz and the cheap was 10 for an oz,we had acid, shrooms, mescaline,T,pcp, crystal meth, ether meth, blue flake coke and soapstone coke,3 kinds of heroin, but it was the one drug I forbid my brother to take-and neither did I,green-n-clears,blue-n-clears,yellows,reds and jelly reds, jelly greens, preludes and qualudes..and untold amounts of whiskey, gin, tequila, wine and beer..we did git some hash, but not much. Every Friday night,my brother and I,would git a case of beer and a lid,all for about 20 bucks, then we'd go on the hunt for the more exotic weed and drugs.

The 70's was a wonderful time to be a hippy..but the rednecks in my area, didn't like it one bit..lol. My old man, dang sure didn't like it-he was 6' 5" and 250lbs of pure meaness..but my brother and I,stood our ground..and eventually I moved out,at the age of 16,into my own place,my brother, shortly after.

    Yup-the 70's were great !

    Have a good one...
