The time is now to get started... baby steps. Plant a vegetable garden in your backyard... learn about everything that you need to know... keep saving money... look at land for sale, just to get an idea of what you want... the list is endless, common sense and planning will make things easier. Follow your dreams, but don't follow them blindly.

In wisconsin here Land values went way up over the last 10 to 20 years. Check what its like in your state, You'll have to save up for the 4 years your in collage and some. My grandparents did some farming like 5 years ago and I used to help them sometimes its MAD HARD work . Id suggest just planting some stuff to take the edge off the riseing cost of food. Brewing your own medicines is unlogical, when you could just stop at a convience store. Building houses and garages takes alot of construction knowlegde too. Hit those books Lol. I think to do what your talking about your going to need at least 80 acres in a good area with the presence of animals to hunt. 80 acres is a Lot of doe. inheriting land is the way to go.
