Sativa inducing rapid mood swings
After smoking sativa, generally a large amount, I have an odd effect: my mood rapidly switches from generally negative (depression, anxiety, confusion, shaking, tachycardia) to positive (euphoria, calm, clearheaded, relaxed). The switch usually happens something like 3-8 times in the course of a high. There is nothing I can do to consciously switch between the two.
I have found no obvious 'trigger' for these shifts and they appear to happen whether I am over analyzing the high or not. I will be euphoric, watching TV and randomly, my mood will shift to negative. The switch is so rapid and complete that it 'feels' chemical-induced (I mean, as if the chemical balance in my brain -suddenly- shifted)
I have no such problems while sober and this occurs after smoking sativa, and sativa only. I am well aware that sativas can cause anxiety, but I have never experienced such a polar shift in mood.
To add to the confusion, indica helps my anxiety.

Most likely, the MMJ is like antibiotics, perhaps, as suggested already, you need to find the right one for your condition. We'll all be glad when they study these issue's more instead of all the chemical medications that just do not work as well or as fast! Good Luck my friend!

Bipolar might be a reason for the highs and lows. Its something to look into. Anybody that has been around anyone with bipolr knows its real. It very hard to be around people with bipolar. Its very unconfortable to watch. Its a disease like any disease. Its a chemical inbalance in the brain and for some the ganja does help. I've seen it help.

AMERICA\'S #1 We should all be proud of this great Country. It is just upsetting that laws prohibit us from growing certain flowers in our GARDENS!!!!
All Pics posted are from a source who lives in Hungary were the LAWS are less Stringent when it comes to Gardening... \"I CAN NOT GROW A CHIA PET\"

I appreciate everyone's posts, and I will look into the bipolar disorder. I'm pretty sure I'm not bipolar sober, but I won't rule it out.

Sattivas produce heady highs. What that means is that your high will be more of a "trippy" like high as opposed to Indica where your high will be more of a body type high. The reason it happens to you is probably not because of bipolar disorder. You're just stoned. If that happened while you were sober, then maybe it could be Bipolar.
After rereading your post again, you are absolutely positive that no thoughts are causing this dramatic mood shift? Usually it is our own thoughts that cause us to panic. Maybe try to get stoned off sattiva again and analyze what you are experiencing. Write it down. That would give us, and especially yourself, greater insight into what's happening to you during those moments.
Random, but maybe it applies:
Perhaps being high is likened to pain. When we experience pain our bodies experience it the same. I.E. if I were to get stabbed and you were too then we would have the same pain level. Although, suppose your tougher then me and can withstand the pain better then I'm able to. It doesn't mean that we both don't experience the same amount of pain, it's just that you are better able to deal with it. I think the same can be applied to getting stoned or any sort of experience for that matter.
Dunno just throwing that out there.\"Look hard in the mirror. Look at that ghost that stares back at you. Look at that faded spirit that longs to act in this world but cannot because the mind is fearful and holds it back. Placing limits on things, and boundaries everywhere.\" -Rev

This is mainly advice for psychedelics, but...

Before you smoke, run through all of your bad thoughts, so by the time you're up high, you already KNOW you're an asshole and you're bored with dwelling on bad thoughts.
(not singling you out, of course)
