I just think that Obama is lost on the majority of working class white men.

It shows that in the outcomes of states like West Virginia and Kentucky.

It's not even a race thing. It's more of the fact that he comes off as condensending. Plus many of the working class white majority go to Church and the whole Wright issue (even though completely meaningless in my opinion) really gets to them.

I don't think I remember anyone being excited about Kerry, and at the time I worked with some very partisan Dems. I don't think they thought he was great choice --- they were just convinced that no one could lose to Bush. Turns out someone could...

No one is better than anyone else, no one should experience failure, and everyone is the same. Is it just me that sees a problem with that? Society stagnates, because success is not rewarded. An old saying in the USSR was; we pretend to work and they pretend to pay us. That is not a good formula for a successful society.

Not exactly. In his earlier days Marx wrote many philosophical articles about religion, society, and his own special breed of historical materialism. The communist party had already come into existance and they asked Marx to write their Manifesto for them because a lot of his writings complimented the communist political philosophy. So no, Communism was not founded on Marxist principles, Marx just gave them a voice.

This may be because of corrupt politicians, not communism. Communism is supposed to eliminate private property, because that is what causes a separation between classes (more specifically the Bourgeoisie owns the land and the proletariat are paid pennies to do all the work on it to make money for the wealthy property owners.) With private property in the hands of the government, it reduces the importance placed on finances for the typical citizen (eliminates the rat race we capitalists find ourselves in). Now, I am not saying communism really works, it doesn't because it doesn't take human nature into account. By human nature I mean people who are ambitious will want more material possessions or power than others, and in communism that is not supposed to happen. So communism only looks good on paper, not in reality.

Well according to the communist manifesto (and I don't agree with this idea at all) the only way to eliminate the old structure of society is basically to have a temporary tyrannical communist government as it wrests power away from the bourgeoisie. Of course, this opens up many doors for power hungry dictators who just don't want their absolute power to end. Temporary is an ambiguous word and it is not specified how long this temporary dictatorship should last.

You guys can argue what communism and socialism are all you want, but since this is an Obama thread, I'd like to say that I do not think Obama is either communist or socialist.

Ha ha! This has always cracked me up too! You see Che shirts being sold in the Gap and these clueless teenagers walking around the shopping mall wearing a shirt with an icon of anti-capitalism. The irony is hilarious! I think they probably have no idea who it is in the picture. It's an iconic image and I guess they just think it's some vague "rebel' or "revolutionary." Cool, I got a revolutionary on my shirt. I'm an anti-establishment rebel. Lets go to the mall and buy some shit.

I'm sure Che would shit himself if he knew his image was being used to sell t-shirts in American stores --- t-shirts probably made by exploited Chinese sweatshop workers who work for pennies a day!

Well I hope he's not a democrat or republican either if we expect to see any real change. Which seems to be the theme of his campaign.
