'Bush gearing up to wage war on Iran'

'Bush gearing up to wage war on Iran'
    Wed, 28 May 2008 07:03:10
    US President George W. Bush
The Bush administration is drawing up plans to launch a strike against Iran within the next two months, says a former top US diplomat.

The source, a retired US diplomat and former assistant secretary of state, said senior Democratic Senator Diane Feinstein of California and Republican Senator Richard Lugar of Indiana have already been briefed on the attack plan.

Senator Feinstein, a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, and Senator Lugar, the ranking Republican on the Foreign Relations Committee, plan to go public with their opposition to the new Iran war plan in a New York Times editorial 'within days', Asia Times Online reported the source as saying on the condition of anonymity.

According to Asia Times Online, Feinstein and Lugar will attempt to offset the August attack by creating a furor about President George W. Bush's intentions of launching air strikes against the headquarters of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps.

In September 2007, the US Senate approved a resolution by a 76-22 vote, calling on the White House to brand the IRGC a terrorist organization.

US echelons accuse Iran of contributing to the killing of American soldiers in neighboring Iraq. This is while the White House is yet to provide concrete evidence in support of its allegation.

Iran insists that it is committed to aiding Baghdad in its efforts to restore stability in the war-ravaged country.

The Bush administration also accuses Iran of developing nuclear arms, a claim which was rejected by 16 US intelligence agencies on December 3 when their assessment conceded that Tehran is not conducting a nuclear weapons program.

According to the most recent UN nuclear watchdog report on Tehran's nuclear program, there is no link between the use of nuclear material and 'the alleged studies' of weaponization attributed to Iran by Western countries.

What is the source for this? I don't really think it is going to happen. But if it does, it will be a good chance to use up all those cluster bombs before the international pressure gsts to great to keep 'em!

Maybe this is just Bush's way of dealing with the criticsm that Iran has been the single greatest beneficiary of our strategic blunder in Iraq. "What? Iran benefited from takin' down Iraq? Well, hell! Let's get 'em while we already got 'em surrounded! Let the Democrats sort it out next four years! Yeeeeeee-hawwwww!"

I really hope this is just some bullshit that got blown out of proportion. I know bush is of . . . Let us say moderate inteligence, but can he really be so stupid or so egotistical as to think he can start (and i assume win) another war when were having trouble managing the one weve got? No one is that dumb. Are they?
    Are they?
Please someone post here soon about how this is all a bunch of hearsay or something.

Now that i think about it though, bush could never pull this off, he doesn't have the support he would need from washington let alone from the People.

Now that I think some more on it, I hope bush does try to start a war with Iran. Maybe he'll get lynched.

He's bored and just trying to build on his legacy. His legacy will be getting us into trumped up wars. And he's done a hell of a good job of it.:beatdeadhorse:

Exclusive: Limited US attack on Iranian Revolutionary Guards bases in sight

    US "stealth" warplanes

Our Washington sources report that president George W. Bush is closer than ever before to ordering a limited missile-air bombardment of the IRGC-al Qods Brigadeā??s installations in Iran. It is planned to target training camps and the munitions factories pumping fighters, missiles and roadside bombs to the Iraqi insurgency, Lebanese Hizballah and Palestinian terrorist groups in Gaza.

Iran is geared up for counteraction.

US intelligence estimates that Tehranā??s counteraction will likewise be on a limited scale and therefore any US-Iranian military encounter will not be allowed to explode into a major confrontation. Because this US assault is not planned to extend to Iranā??s nuclear installations, Tehran is not expected to hit back at distant American targets in the Persian Gulf or at Israel.

DEBKAfileā??s Iranian sources report, however, that Iranā??s military preparations for countering an American attack are far broader than envisaged in Washington. Tehran would view a US attack on the IRGC bases as a casus belli and might react in ways and on a scale unanticipated in Washington.

Two days ago, Iranā??s defense minister Gen. Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar warned: ā??Iranā??s Armed Forces are fully prepared to counter any military attack with any intensity and to make the enemy regret initiating any such incursions.ā?

According to DEBKAfileā??s Iranian and military sources, the IRGC had by mid-May completed their preparations for a US missile, air or commando assault on their command centers and bases in reprisal for Iranian intervention in Iraq.

These preparations encompass al Qodsā?? arms, most of them undercover, in Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon and Sudan. At home, the Revolutionary Guards have evacuated their key bases together with manpower and equipment to regular army sites or temporary quarters in villages located in remote corners of eastern and northern Iran. Their main headquarters and central training center at the Imam Ali University in northern Tehran are deserted except for sentries on the gates.

Indoctrination seminaries and dormitories hosting fighting strength in the holy town of Qom are empty, as is the Manzariyah training center east of the capital.

Deserted too is the main training camp near Isfahan for insurgents and terrorists from Iraq, Afghanistan, Baluchistan, Lebanon and the Gaza Strip. It is here that they take courses from friendly al Qods training staff on how to sabotage strategic targets such as routes, bridges and military installations, and the activation of the extra-powerful roadside bombs (EFPs) which have had such a deadly effect on American troops in Iraq.
