Kennedy to undergo brain surgery

Sen. Edward Kennedy announced Monday he will undergo surgery to treat a malignant brain tumor.

"Over the past several days, [my wife] Vicki and I, along with my outstanding team of doctors at Massachusetts General Hospital, have consulted with experts from around the country and have decided that the best course of action for my brain tumor is targeted surgery, followed by chemotherapy and radiation," the senator said in a statement.

"This morning, I will be undergoing surgery with Dr. Allan Friedman at Duke University Medical Center and expect to remain there to recuperate for approximately one week."

Kennedy said he would start radiation treatments shortly afterward at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and begin chemotherapy.

He has a luxury most do not! My neighbor had a diff. CA and was told not operable; went to a specific CA institute and they operated, one year ago--doing well! With $ and good insurance, there is more hope than those of us that have diff. types of insurance. Which, hopefully, makes THIS CURRENT ELECTION, very hopeful on the issue of medical care quality for all! Certainly, Sen. Kennedy is in my prayer. Since, there is a lot of discussion of cell phones causing this type of ca, the medical pubilicity will help many. As it seems this is what J. Cochran died of! Larry King had a good show on the topic.! Well to all dealing with this insidious disease and hope this case may be a big help to further the MMJ cause (always looking to see the positive for our purpose)!:thumbsup:

Surgery is over and he made it through OK. Now we'll have to see what develops with the chemo and radiation.

The interesting thing is that they found that the tumor is actually benign --- it's the BRAIN that's MALIGNANT!

As a cancer survivor I would never wish cancer on anyone.

But I can't feel all too bad considering he killed someone himself.

I read that his cancer affects the folds and creases of the brain. That's why it's untreatable.

My fiance's grandma just died from brain cancer 4 or 5 months ago. It was bad watching her go. They cut a huge section of her skull off and gave her chemo.

Cancer beat my ass when I was in my early teens. Older people don't have a chance.
