The Nazi death camp that Barack Obama's great-uncle helped liberate
Barack Obama, at a Memorial Day event in Las Cruces, N.M., credited his great-uncle, Charlie Payne, as being among the U.S. troops who liberated the Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz.
The trouble with that bit of history -- as the Republican National Committee pointed out today -- is that the Soviet Red Army was the military force that liberated the World War II death camp.
The RNC seized the opportunity to fire off a news release, saying that ??unless his uncle was serving in the Red Army, there??s no way Obama??s statement yesterday can be true. Obama??s frequent exaggerations and outright distortions raise questions about his judgment and his readiness to lead as commander in chief.?
The Obama campaign soon acknowledged that the Democratic candidate made a mistake. It explained that Obama??s great-uncle was in the 89th Infantry Division that helped liberate another notorious death camp, Buchenwald. Obama, the campaign said, ??is proud of the service of his grandfather and uncles in World War II -- especially the fact that his great-uncle was part of liberating of one of the concentration camps at Buchenwald.?
All of which raises the question: What's worse, Obama's apparent gaffe or the RNC pouncing on a Holocaust-related historical mistake for political advantage?
The Nazi death camp that Barack Obama's great-uncle helped liberate : Top of the Ticket : Los Angeles Times
Obama spokeswoman Jen Psaki responded with this comment: "Sen. Obama thinks Memorial Day is a day to honor our nation's veterans, not a day for political posturing."
McCain vs. Obama: A glimpse of the fall - First Read - msnbc.com
So proud of their service and accomplishments that he forgot what the real story was...hmmmm. As for myself, if my grandfather or great uncle was involved in that it would be etched into my brain out of pride and respect.
"Sen. Obama thinks Memorial Day is a day to honor our nation's veterans, not a day for political posturing.".....SURE, it's alright for him to bring up a historical mistake for political posturing but ya better not question it or invite the S.O.B. to a trip to Iraq because that's wrong.
Nice to see this is the choice of the DNC.....

Im sorry P4B, but Barack Obama, hell any Dem., is the better choice over Sen. John McCain. You may not agree with me, but we need SOME CHANGE in our government. Another Republican, specifically John McCain, wont change a god damn thing about American society, our image to foreign nations, IRAQ, our dependece on oil, ECT. It is not isolationism to think that we need to break our dependece on foreign oil, DO YOU KNOW THAT ONLY 2 OF THE RICHEST PEOPLE IN THE WORLD ARE AMERICAN TODAY? You left wings think that Obama will simply pull our troops out of Iraq without negotiation with Iran, Syria, Israel, so that WW3 doesnt start, and that is completely back asswards. Stop being so partisan and open your fucking minds so you can accept that there ARE other people in this country outside of the White working class that need some help.
Have a GOOD ONE

The Nazi death camp that Barack Obama's great-uncle helped liberate
Oh my goodness gracious! I mistake? Perpetrated by a guy who's undoubtedly exhausted from months upon months of campaigning? Unforgiveable! First that Nazi doesn't wear a little flag pin, and now this!!??
I mean he could have actually done something to screw up the nation; like wasting hundreds of billions of dollars, hundreds of thousands of lives, and all sorts of strategic advantage on a needless war. Or he could have wiped his ass with the constitution before throwing away the very rights the founding fathers believed in. Or he could have sent the US economy down the shitter, or ruined your international reputation, or pardoned a big-time white-collar criminal with no justification, or instituted tax breaks for the rich but not particularly beneficial for actual business, or left your borders open for 2 presidential terms. But THIS?????
On another note, I'd like to congradulate you on your 1,000th Anti-Democratic post P4B! Lets see, that's 1,000 anti-dem and 0 anti-Republican. But then the Republican party is clearly perfect, flawless in all it's doings, else you would surely have felt the need to call them on some bullshit for once. Logic and objectivity at it's finest.

You guys crack me up. I love how all of you defend your own masters. One day, I hope everyone will wake up and come to realize that this is just an act, there is no difference between these two parties they ALL work for the interest of big business! All they do is steal, lie, cheat, murder, and they will destroy this country. So just keep defending, and make sure you stay loyal to your parties, and not to your fellow countrymen.
