    1st hydro grow recir dwc

I finally got my hydro system stable and running with little maintenance. I started with three plants altogether, but after some early problems and mistakes; I only ended up with one healthy female.

I tried to post this before, but it disappeared somehow.

    The strain: Papaya

The system: Recirculating DWC (setup for three buckets but only one plant left)

Iā??m using sensi a+b, b52, and cal mag (no special formula; just directions off the bottle)

I keep my ph around 5.8 ā?? 6.0 @ 1900ppmā??s; and in imo even though Iā??ve only had one prior grow to this which was in soil. This hydro stuff is WAY better once you get everything stable.

Iā??m starting to 5th week of flowering, and the growth is still outrageous! (especially compared to my last grow) but in all fairness I also am trying out LST for the first time as well; but I think it's a little out of control

I think things are looking okay right now for the most part; there are some pics posted below. Any feedback positive or negative would be much appreciated because I am still learning or trying to find a comfortable method that I can stick with. (If that makes sense)

looks really healthy man although 1900 ppm sounds awful high, i thing the experts would say to get it down to around 1500.

that being said, your virtical growth should all but stop now, in the 5th wk of flowering i would expect most of the new growth to be in the buds.

like you, i'm on my second grow overall and my first in hydro and like you, i love it.

if you could post some pics of your set-up that would be great.

btw, if you aren't cloning yet, you need to learn how, it's not hard really and, once you know you have a female, you can replicate her so you can have as many female plants as you want.

anyway, good luck, let us know what you yield

(come check out my imaginary garden, i built a cloner you could use)

I don't have many pics of the setup, but the ones I do have are:

pic1 is the cab empty, the grow area measures 5x4x2' with the top being used for utility purposes

pic2 is a test run of the DWC system; the guide I followed was on another site for 12 buckets, and I just downsized that to 4 then to 3. (I'll have to find the link for it)

Pic3 is before the cool tube, I wanted to see what everything looked like. Now it's a 400watt in cool tube with 6 23w cfl's for undergrowth. (sorry I don't have more on the setup )

Then I have some early flowing pics (week 3 I believe)

Thanks for your comments keep'em coming

I turn it off to take pictures because the hps makes the pics look red and unclear or could just be my camera, but that's why.

that's a great size for a cab, if you look around you will find a lot of grows going in similar cabs, you'll see many things you might like.

for instance, a DIY activated carbon air filter for that 'utility' space at the top of the cab (in case odor is a problem)
oh yeah, sometimes that mylar can be a pain to keep clean and flat against the walls of the cab, if it does for you, just paint the inside flat white, that'll give you about 90% reflectivity, as close to mylar as you can get, i think.
also, in the future, you might consider making your own DWC buckets out of something like mine (you might fit 4 in there)(mine hold 27 quarts or 5 gallons with room to spare)

another thing you might consider down the road is a SCROG.
anyway, great job for your second grow, keep up the good work

if your camera has a 'tungsten' mode for the color, you could use that, I do for my pics, still has a tint of orange in it but looks pretty good

heres a sample one without the tungsten setting and the latter with it

in the future you night want to put the rockwool lower in the pot, you shouldn't be able to see the rockwool, it can get moldy for one thing and i think it can cause 'damping off', a condition where the stem gets weak and eventually rots at the base.

    anyway, that's my understanding

unfortunately my camera doesn't have that function maybe in the future when I get a new one.

Initially I wanted to upgrade to a 600 watt or 1000 watt hps, but cost wouldnā??t allow for this grow, but definitely on the next one the primary light source will be bigger.

As far as a carbon scrubber; I thought about making one, but odor is really not a big issue right now, but that is a great idea for the future. With the Mylar you are absolutely right about keeping it clean. I find myself trying to keep it looking clear and glossy more that I do anything else.

Once I start to take clones (again your cloner looks great bozo :thumbsup SCROG is defiantly a method Iā??d like to try. Iā??ve seen some people on this site get excellent results from it.

I do have a question though Iā??ve seen some people on here use some stuff called ā??sweetā? when growing hydro. Is this like the hydro equivalent of molasses? Or can I still use molasses like I would with a soil grow?
