Hermaphrodite info?
I've just discovered after about 10 to 12 days of 12-12 lighting that one of my beauties is sporting both male and female equipment
. It seems that just the bottom nodes are sporting males parts and the uppers appear to be pushing buds (the top looks wonderful). I don't really know much about hermy plants and the forum search didn't divulge anything great about the topic.
Now, should I scrap this plant, or is it worth the effort to try and salvage something from it? I don't know enough about them to make a decision here. I did read in stinky's "dankness" thread that she refered to them as the "dreaded hermy" (that didn't bolster my cofidence as far as salvaging goes).
Thanks for the info. Also if someone knows of a hermy thread that'll enlighten me, please send me there and I can stop bugging everyone! Thanksvernont Reviewed by vernont on . Hermaphrodite info? the hermied plant is still OK to grow out and smoke, just keep pulling off the male parts when you see them ... don't use the plant for breeding, you will only be breeding an inferior plant ... so-called 'feminized' seeds are created by using hermie pollen, but again, it is an inferior plant, in my opinion ... smoke it or destroy it, either way works ... :smokin:

Thanks reaper. I'm glad it's not a total loss. The only other concern I had was concerning my females. Will the hermy pose any theat to my girls?

It'll fill them full of seeds. If you have other girls in the area I'd trash the hermie.
edit: Also, check your room/cab/whatever for light leaks. Or.. really any other kind of stress. Sometimes a plant will go hermie just because, but generally it is because of some external factor causing it.

I'd have to agree with orzy, if you have others get the hermie out of there. When the buds get large and green is everywhere it becomes more difficult to locate them and pull them off. Maybe just pull it off and keep an eye on herhim until you see some more. If that happens toss her. It all really depends on how many girls are in close proximity, or thats the way i look at it. Good luck!

I would just tend to it, picking off the balls. Hermie's usually don't produce a whole bunch of male flowers. I've had a couple in the past and after picking the balls off they turned out fine. Once I missed some of those buggers but still only had 20 or30 seeds in the whole garden. Nothing wrong with getting rid of hermies, it's really a personal choice.

Cool, cool. Thanks people. I kinda thought that it'd make my fems go seedy. I'm actually gonna rely on my plants to provide a few seeds for my next grow. As long as they don't completely over run my buds I'm alright with that. Anything to avoid ordering seeds on line. I'm not paranoid but I don't want to drop a bundle on seeds just to have them seized in the mail. That seem's to be the trend in the great white north right now.
