If you like jrpg or Final Fantasy you should try Lost Odyssey

It's made by Mistwalker which is comprised of the mastermind behind the Final Fantasy series and several other Square employees that left and formed their own game developing company.

If you tossed a few chocobos in and renamed the spells to their final fantasy counter parts this could easily pass for a part of the series. It feels incredibly similar. It's very old school in style. Random battles, multiple discs. I was happy to discover that your whole party fights at once (none of that having to choose 3 or 4 of your 6 party members while the others are side lined, no they all fight. With a front row/back row system.

The game is down right gorgeous, very bright and colorful. Which is stark contrast to the storyline which is very sad and depressing to the point that some of it will actually bring tears to your eyes.

It's got some good voice acting, though the script is definitely anime influenced so its sappy and doesn't feel like the natural way people would act at times. The music much like you'd expect in a Final Fantasy title is top notch and very beautiful.

I've been surprised by the challenge of the normal fights, even the normal enemies can open a can of whoop ass on you if you aren't careful.

All in all I'd say the game relies on nostalgic gameplay, while giving you new aged visuals to wow you. It's got a couple of tweaks to the standard jrpg combat formula to keep it interesting and the story or at least the background history is really quite heartbreaking more so than you've probably seen in a game before. It doesn't take any big risks and follows a standard JRPG layout in pretty much all areas, but it does them very very well. If you love or like JRPGs and want a break from all the big western style games as of late. You should give it a try.

I'm playing it right now and starting to get a little bored (13 hours in, beginning of second disk).
Its very pretty, but very bland.
I've been skipping every story scene.
