Discussion: Ted Kennedy's diagnosis effect on Mccains chances

I'm curious to hear everyones thoughts on the above subject title.

With Ted Kennedy being diagnosed with a brain tumor at age 76; I feel this paints a very real picture Americans will have to face in the upcoming election. Death.....

Mccain, 71... or 72 I think, would be the oldest president elected *into* office. The likely hood of something life threatening happening to him is something that is very possible considering his age.

Ted Kennedy's diagnosis has come at a very awkward time also. With Obama and Clinton duking it out and Kennedy becoming sick he may have enough sway, from sympathy or respect from enduring as many years as congress as he has, to help to raise one of these candidates to long sought after pedestal of the democratic nominee.

Adversely; I feel his age and illness may make Americans who were already looking closely at John Mccains age start to look at it even more closely... possibly being unreasonable and nitpicking.

I feel that Mccain getting elected will come down to who his vice president is if Mccain wants to stand a chance against the Media Wave that has covered the democratic party the last few months and to withstand the news of Ted Kennedy's unfortunate diagnosis.

Anyone else have some thoughts. I'm interested to hear what other people are speculating.

Like Ted always says..."we'll cross that bridge when we get to it".

I don't think that the age thing is even a factor here....cancer knows no age.

I've NEVER had any time for ol' Teddy but still, I wish him and his family the best of wishes for what's to come.

    Have a good one!:s4:

But with age comes ailments; cancer being one of them. Although it can effect anyone a weakened body is always usually more vulnerable than it's younger counterpart.

With that said I have to say I do think age will play a factor here.

With a very well known political figure recently diagnosed with a tumor I feel that this may give the Dems a tiny amount of sway in their direction.

I'm not sure how detrimental it will be but I definitely feel it will cause some voters to swing their votes the other way.

I'm not comfortable with the thought of a president who may pass while in office.. and having to have his VP pick up the pieces. I will still vote for mccain most likely just because I feel he is better than the alternative.

I think depending on who he picks to be his running mate will determine if Mccain completely dominates and overshadows the Democrats or will lose/come painfully close.
