    soil mix questions...

ok, i'm just gonna list everything i have that i thought would be good to mix in to my soil, i'm not really sure how much of everything i should use exactly, any help is greatly appreciated.
i currently have four youths that i started in plastic cups in a simple hyponex/perlite mix. after a while i transplanted into 8 inch square pots, this may be where i messed up. i mixed about 2 parts hyponex, 1 part perlite, 1 part sphagnum peat, about 2 cups worm castings and about 2 tablespoons bone meal. i was completely unsure of how much bone meal to use, pretty much guessed. none of the plants are doing too good, they all show signs of nuteburn/calcium def. plus alot of heat stress since the temps range from 75-105! plus i do believe my water is a problem... distilled water... i did add a little superthrive and every other watering added molasses for ca. i have ordered some cal-mag plus to fix the water problem. nonetheless, back to my soil, i plan to transplant one more time before flowering time. here's a list of what i have, let me know what you think as far as how many parts of each.

    hyponex soil
    sphagnum peat moss
    bone meal
    blood meal
    perlite
    worm castings
    garden (dolomite) lime

    soil mix questions...

when mixing dry ferts in your soil an average dose is about 1 cup of mix per cubic foot/40lb bag of soil mix, ive found compost to be superior to peat moss. but either will work just fine
dont need superthrive much, best during transplant or during stressful times, its great for roots and thats about it.

    soil mix questions...

lose the peatmoss and peat products, too acidic ... the dolomite lime is great stuff, the SuperThrive is bogus for anything except early formation of rooting, good for cloning, etc ... ST can and does kill, if over-used ... SuperThrive is over-advertised medicine-show garbage

    soil mix questions...

i can't lose the peat moss, the soil will dry up too fast and become hard crust. that's what happened before i used peat moss, i know now that humus is a good alternative, but i don't have any and peat should work fine as long as i add the [I]right[I] amount of lime to it. i've heard similar tales of superthrive being crap. i agree. the shit wasn't designed by a gardener, that's for sure, directions say add one drop per gallon, yet the bottle has a screw on cap, with no dropper, what a pain! anyway, the only reason i was using superthrive was to help keep the stress down from the extreme heat issues. i got some cal-mag plus in the mail yesterday finally, so that should take care of the problems with using distilled water. thanks for all the help folks.

    soil mix questions...

IF you can find it in your area, two great products for soil amendment are: Kellogg's 'Amend' Soil Amendment, and Fox Farms 'Happy Frog Soil Conditioner' ... the Happy Frog Conditioner is outstanding stuff ... full of mychorreazea (I cant spell that right for the life of me) and humic acid, it is a texture and material that really 'opens' up your soil, providing great drainage, etc ... the 'Amend' is made from rice hulls and sludge (sounds appetizing :wtf, but it really grows plants !, is a texture more like potting soil ... good luck with your grow
