Confirm Yellow Leaf Diagnosis. (PICS)
Hey everyone.
I've got
5 White Rhinos
Ebb & Flow in pH'd Hydroton
5.8 pH (consistantly)
1400ish ppm
18 Days Flowering
400w HPS
GH 3 part Nutes (following latewood's recipe)
70-80* F canopy temp
50-65% humidity
lots of air circulation
As you can see from the pics, some of the leaves are starting to yellow and quite a few have completely yellowed and fallen off.
My first thought was N deficiency, but the drooping and mid, high and low locations of the yellowing leaves also hinted at P and K deficiency. Are they just underfed? should i add a feeding or boost my nutes a little?
OR
Take a look at pic 5. that plant looks good/unaffected. Does that mean that maybe it's a root problem because not all the plants are suffering? i'm running Hygrozyme through to clean up the roots and medium.
those are my best guesses.
Can anyone tell me if i'm on point or way off base?
thanks.

Two questions.....what kind of water are you using? If it's RO or distilled you need CalMag Plus.
When was the last time you thoroughly flushed your system?
Ok...I LIED
.....question three....are you using a zyme product for you roots?

1. it's tap water (7.8 pH out of the faucet, pH down to 5.8)
2. I've never fully flushed the system, it's only been in use for 8 weeks. I'd love to hear some good flushing methods if you've got a moment (i'll do some searching too)
3. I am using hygrozyme which (as you probably know) is supposed to clean the grow medium and promote healthy roots, among other things.
thanks for the reply, i hope to hear back soon!

Looks like a micronute uptake problem.
You're running a stiff fert mix already. Take your GH Micro and make a foliar spray at about half what the bottle recommends for your plants' life stage, and mist lightly.
It looks like your tap water doesn't have enough minerals in it, or at the wrong levels or wrong types- you still might need calmag in the mix. Add it first, to bring your base wager to 300ppm, and then add your bloom ferts on top of that to yoru desired level.
Also, check that your res temp is stable and appropriate.
Do a complete res change and you shouldn't need to do any special flushing at this point. They aren't that bad- nothing a little foliar spray won't fix, but get the problem that caused it sorted asap.

Excellent! I got replies from to 2 members i was hoping to snag! Thanks weedHound and Stinky.
I've made a list of your suggestions and will be implementing them tonight (or tomorrow...tonight is my first harvest (different setup than this one) and i'm real excited about that.)
Thanks again, i'll post my results soon.

Go into user cp and there should be a tab on the left 'edit options' and then within that 'show reputation level'.

Well. I've lowered my res temps by adding some ice water bottles in the AM and by relocating my ballast (it was probably heating the water a bit.) Also i've been doing the 50% Micro Foliar feeding for the last 2 days.
In addition i made some changes to my ebb and Flow. Originally, it was filled with hydroton and the plants just sat in it. Well come to find out that there's been an inch of muck water that never drained due to all the sludge that comes from the rocks. So my roots have been sitting in that crap for 3 weeks now. I dunno if that was the cause of my problems, but it definitely needed to be fixed. So now my ladies are sittin pretty in 6" net pots filled with Rocks in a nice clean tub with fresh nutes and hygrozyme.
The only thing i haven't tried yet is the CalMag+. I'm trying everything that is free first...if that doesn't work i'll spend a little more cash. Money isn't a problem, but when there's 2-3 things i can do before spending $$ i'll certainly do that first.
thanks again, i'll let you know if things take off.

Well...
First off, i'd like to thank all of you for your help and kind suggestions. I've tried everything with very little reward, in fact, they are getting worse.
I think that perhaps the cause was when i switched from a tub full of grow rocks to individual net pots filled with rocks. As you may know from the previous post, there was about an inch of muck water that never drained from the bottom of the tub which probably wasn't good for my roots, they were all brown and nasty looking, then, when i dug them out of the rocks to put them in pots, a fair amount of damage was probably done to the already fragile root system. So after all my fussin' and TLC (perhaps too much TLC) i've come to grips with the fact that my 2nd grow is probably a bit of a bust.
Let's say that the root system is severely damaged and the plants aren't getting much of anything. Would a foliar feeding with an age appropriate nute solution help? how else can i feed them to make up for the crap roots?
Always learning...
Skeet.
