I live in sunny California, so the weather here is nothing to complain about. But we have had an unusually cool spring. A strange combination of much less than normal rain, but also much less than normal heat --- cool and dry. Of course, every year I say, "This is not normal weather for this time of year." Why is it that we use the word "normal" to describe the thing that never actually happens?

This week it is finally heating up, and of course it is going to skip the nice upper 70's and low 80's F and go straight to the scorching triple digits. Today it is supposed to be about 102F. Yesterday and the day before were beautiful though. Got a bit baked and went for a bike ride on a local trail I like. It was great. All the wildlife is coming out for the warm weather --- birds, bumblebees and butterflies flying around, lizards and squirels running across the trail, all the flowers in bloom. A great day!
