Need Help Designing Ultimate Grow-Room - 10 lights
Hey Folks,
I am planning a kick-ass grow room and require some help, especially in the area of electrical stuff, as I really dont have a clue. I want a 10 light room, and figure a 15 KW generator should cover that. Questions:
-Does anyone have enough electrical expertise to help with the design?
-What size of diesel tank do I need, and how do you pump the diesel into the generator tank? (And how would you hide the purchase of such large quantities). Any help is appreciated,

Aye, I agree. A 15kW generator is pretty big, and if you end up running that thing at even 75%, you're going to be toying with a LOT of electricity. 12,500 watts is no joke, and can lead to serious injuries/death for someone who doesn't know much about "electrical stuff."
On top of that, a 15kW diesel generator running at 75% capacity will burn fuel at a rate of about 1.3 gallons per hour. Obviously this will be more if it's at full-load. Price per gallon of diesel is currently hovering around $4.15-$4.50 a gallon in the U.S. (Not sure what it is in Canada.) We'll round down to 1gal/hour and say $4.50 per hour x 12 hours per day = roughly $54 per day. At 18 hours it would be $81 per day. You can see how expensive this would become after continuously being used, plus remember, we rounded down and only estimated usage at 75%!
If you've got that kind of money to spend, maybe you should think about hiring a contractor to do the electrical work for you. Just a thought.

So you wanna grow pot, huh...? With the plans you outlined...you are likely better-off learning to grow on a much smaller scale. The growbiz you describe is a bust or accident waiting to happen. There's more to growing than switching on the lights, and watering on occation. And then there's the stealth and safety concerns.
No offense, but you sound like a kid that's just gotten his first tax check, and is itching to spend it...
Doubtful anyone here will teach you electrical theory, (definatelly a liability ans sensibility issue) but if you are going to work with kilovolts, you had better learn pretty damn fast. Not to mention the fact you can kill yourself replacing a capacitor, if done incorrectly, or burn the house down using faulty equipment.
Curious why such an ambitious plan without necessary experience, and why would you post such grandiose plans, for all the world to see, unless this is just wishful thinking, which, if that's the case, aren't you just wasting our time...?

diesel-engine generators, run fulltime, eh :wtf: ... I think you'd be better off dreaming about building your own hydro-electric plant ... no fuel bill, and quiet, too :S2:

Hey you know, honestly, they are right.....even though they kinda slammed ya..
.. you need to start out slow. There is a lot more to learn then sticking some lights in a room and controlling temps...
Besides, the way your discussing going about it is probably alot more costly then just plain old electricity.
Try starting a cabinet or shed, setting up your ventilation, learn about ferts, tempature controls, PH, soil, etc. etc. and all that good stuff, try a few crops then go from there. If you already did that, you would also want to consider that sometimes generators can mess up your plants if they are near them, and definately hire a contractor, unless you have a friend that is an electrical contractor.
