    Sproutlets turning away from light

Before I get started, can someone point me to the FAQ on making potentially self-incriminating posts and website security?

I have several few day old sprouts (1.5" average height). On Day 1, I put them under a blue LED spotlight. They liked that.

    On day 2, I added a 6500K 26W fluoro. No problemo.

    Day 3, I added a 2700K 23W fluoro.

This is on one of those staggered three lamp floor lights.

Bear in mind, that this is not the regular grow area (under construction) and the lights are 6" (LED), 14" (26W) and 22" (23W) away from the plant. I know this is very far away and should be much closer, so it cannot be a heat problem, but all of the sprouts have turned sideways away from the light after coming up nice and straight.

I live in a very dry area and give them a light water spritz morning and night. The area temp is about 80F. They have been getting about 16 hours of light per day.

Is this normal? Any suggestions before I inadvertently kill them?

Stop misting them. You are creating great conditions for damping-off. Water the soil lightly only when it's in danger of drying out, using a ketchup dispenser of turkey baster if you feel that a watering can makes too heavy a stream.

Look up TOR the Onion Router. Don't post pics of yourself or the outside of your home. Check that no pics show your name- diplomas on the wall are a classic. Never post a link to myspace or any other site like that, and avoid using IM programs that may be associated with a 'real' email addy with other members on site until you have gained reason to trust them implicitly. Don't take high resolution pictures of your hands, as there IS software to strip out actual fingerprint patterns from these. Never show tattoos, especially if you have an arrest history.

Have to agree with stinkyattic on this one. Misting is not needed for sprouts only for clones that need high humidity for the first couple weeks. Are the sprouts around any windows where they may receive daylight? If so this could cause them to bend to the sun since the cfl are too high.....I would also push the time up to any where from 20 to 24hrs on the light. Ive found that the plants thrive with continuous light during vegging.

No, they are not turning towards sunlight as the room is otherwise dark. The two youngest of them are growing straight and true. They have yet to shed the husk but are twice as tall as the ones with baby leaves extended.

I put them in my veg room this morning and now the leaf on one is turning yellow. Same seeds; same soil; same everything except the ones that are tinier and bent over sprouted first. They have good ventilation.

The taller, healthier stalks are purplish green; the ones that are struggling appear to have a more purplish stalk.

The soil is dry as I live in the desert, but have refrained from watering them for a while. Humidity is about 15-18%.

I fear I may lose my first babies.

They are not turning away from the light as much as pointing towards the ground like an inverted hook.

Somehow I must have shocked them though I added more light gradually.

Oh- that humidity is real low. Put a tray of water in the room with them to bring it up over 25%.

    The water tray didn't help.

All five are dead and I still am not sure what killed them. I tried to be extra careful and read everything I could find. They were hard-to-get C99. I have five left, but don't know what to do differently.

They were all doing fine under the blue LED lamp and seemed to start struggling with the addition of a third lamp if that has any relevance.

    Too much light too soon?

Use spring water instead of hard tap water?

    Get a PH meter/tester?

    Get a different hobby?

it seems obvious to me, IF the plants turn away from the lights, then the plants are getting too much light :wtf: ... don't listen to me, listen to your plants (move the lights farther away) ...

Even though I am a newbie, I doubt 60 watts from a good distance was too much.

Still thinking it might be the tap water...

Yeah, the very first thing you should do is check the PH of your water. Then secondly, I would wait till you get your growroom set up. Cause it sounds like what you have right now is much less then ideal. Then you will be able to monitor temps and humidity along with control it a lot easier.

So unfortunately, I\'m forced to play the role of a cannabis grower instead of actually participate in the hobby.
