    Slugs,Mites and Deer

Ok I am ready to transplant to mother earth. I plan on adding soil to the spots i dug out. When i went back to check my holes i noticed deer scat.
    I have a few questions.

1: should i abandon my area because of the scat?
2:What can i put to keep deer away(a fence of any type isnt an option)?
3: when and what do i use for slugs?
4:When and what do i use for spider mites etc.?

    Thanks

    1- No
2- Hot pepper wax, coyote urine, moth balls, human hair, human piss, 'bird netting' or fishing line draped over the plants. There are a few options for this, and I would use a combination. Deer get freaked out by fishing line that they can't see. You can tie it to nearby trees or shrubs and make an invisible web.
3- Slugs can be trapped with beer as bait. Google it- I'm not sure exactly what the trap is supposed to look like. Also, cutworm collars around your plants are worthwhile if you suspect an assortment of chewing critters.
4- neem oil is a GREAT mite repellent and also prevents fungus.

Deer Repellent: Morganite lawn food, avail at Home Dep. It's made from waste treatment sludge and smells like a septic leechfield. Scatter it around and the deer will stay away, it's long lasting.
I also use it to keep them from browsing my hosta.
