    PSA:
there are interesting correlations between proper to perfect grammar and punctuation use in largely informal settings (ie. internet forums) and arrogance. see also: insecurity. google for the studies.

blaze doesn't need to defend herself. it worked fine for e.e. cummings! language evolves, like it or not, along with the world. no matter how many periods we use, or bottles we recycle, or fossil fuels we burn, or animals we refuse to eat because we're vegans (or extra steaks i eat because you are one ), the earth will slowly recycle itself as it has for billions of years. all our meddling really does is shift things around a bit on the geologic time line. =p

obligatory disclaimer: AIM slang doesn't make you seem any brighter than Captial typing precisely like this does period to signify end of thought.

im also a big fan of paragraphs. everyone please continue to use them! plz - not for my intellectual safety, but for my eyeballs.

cue 'the more you know!' spot.

fake edit: wow sorry for the derailing=/

I think its the fact that you watch Tyra in the middle of weekday afternoons that puts the whole picture together

Lol! Hardly. The extra effort it takes to invent new spellings for commonly used words makes your point invalid- it is only one extra key-stroke to write 'school' instead of 'skool', and the 'being taken seriously' aspect definitely makes that keystroke worthwhile. It's not like you are only allowed 160 characters per post like on your txt msg fx on the celly.
This is less an 'informal setting' than most forums. It's an informative/educational resource for MMJ users and supporters- we even have a rule in place about contentless posts! In light of the informative purpose here, it becomes important to post both questions and answers clearly. I like to teach med users to grow pot. Therefore, I come to canncom. If I wanted to post social threads in txt-tlk, I'd go elsewhere. Simple! If that makes you think I'm insecure... good for you! Guess what? I don't care!

Oh- e. e. cummings may have used grammar and punctuation in a non-traditional manner, but if you are familiar with his work it becomes immediately apparent that he has a very profound understanding of the English language- both its mechanisms and traditional styles of literary expression, such as his love of the sonnet as a poetic framework. I HARDLY think there is a comparison to be made here. Sloppy grammar and avant-garde literary styles are NOT the same animal.

By the way, I don't mind about the lawn- but don't piss on my fire hydrant. This is why I try to stay in the grow area most of the time. I think I'm gonna go crawl back under my rock.

i guess then that ebonics is just the natural evolution of the english language? yeah, right. like Stinky said, the only difference in using 'skool' instead of 'school' is it saves you 1 keystroke. another difference is that using 'school' might not make you look more intelligent but using 'skool' definately gives the appearance of ignorance. it's a 'slovenly' way to communicate.

oh, i almost forgot, lol. good morning CanaDank
