If trichome production has slowed down, but most of them are clear, you'll get more of a speedy head high. Wait until 40% or more of the trichs are amber, and you've waited too long, and the THC is actually beginning to degrade and should be harvested soon. You'll still get a nice sedative effect, but you don't want to let them degrade too much, or you'll start taking away from all the hard work you put into them.
