    Help?

Sooo, my friend and I decided to try our hand at growing, and well, I'm pretty sure we did everything totally wrong. After a long while of researching and reading the faqs and such. First of all, it was an Ak47 seed that we got from a friend of ours, it was free so what the heck. He went over basic care for it being he had done this for some time, we did everything instructed (please correct any procedures that I went through) He told me to plant it in the soil no more than a half inch deep, and water it and in about 5 days it should sprout, then basically keep watering and let it get atleast eight hours of sunlight a day. We followed these directions carefully. Anyways, a few days later, my friend dropped the pot it was in and all the soil came out. We kind of panicked and looked for the seed if it was anywhere to be seen. And we couldn't find it. It was nowhere to be found. Is it normal for the seed to disappear like that? Or did we not take care of it and did it like, die or dissolve or something? Any help would be appreciated. I would like to try again soon. Thanks. No trash-talking btw, I know I'm a noob at this.

Well for starters, if you've ever grown a houseplant before apply the same mentality to growing any plant. The 1/2" was correct. You don't want to too deep because it'll be more difficult to sprout. As for the water, he was off. Follow these instructions:

    1) Germinate the seed by placing in a wet paper towel. (I put it all in a baggie as well. ) Keep it warm if you can, but not hot.
    2) When a root has begun to sprout (12 hrs.-7 days) plant that sucker in a small pot, even a NON-clear plastic solo cup will be preferrable and water it immeditaely until you see water runoff.
    3) Depending on the heat, light, pretty much the whole envionment, water every 2-3 days. A popular regime is to water day 1, check on day 2,3, water on day four. Again, depends on the environment.

There a TONS of different ways of going about this process, and I'm sure people will chime in. Keep in mind, there are a wealth of books and guides out there to help you out, knowledge is power lol. As for your next grow, after the seedling stage you'll begin the vegetative process, etc. and it goes on and on. As for the disappearing act, it was probably undeveloped somewhere in the soil with little to no rootlings. It's fucked now so don't worry about it. Just be more careful next time .

    Help?

Thanks for the advice. I'll try these next time. Some quick questions, is any soil okay? Such as soil/dirt from my backyard? And if only organic potting mixes are okay to use. I wasn't quite sure on these. Oh and, if I put the soil back in the pot, there's no chance that the possibly undeveloped seed can still grow right? Or is there a chance?

There's always a chance, but if nothing had even sprouted yet I wouldn't worry about it good strain or not. You could alwas see what happens while you grow another plant, it's completely up to you.
As for the soil, don't get miracle grow or something generic. Many people use many different types of soil. I know many people use Pro-Mix and it's different variations (Organic, BT, etc.) and I use Pro-Mix Organic myself. A solid soil mix to use is 1 part soil, 1 part vermiculite, 1 part perlite and 1 part earthworm castings. All of this should be available at serious gardening stores. Keep in mind, you DON'T have to go organic at all! You could use chemical fertilizers and soil *cough* BC Bud *cough* but it all depends on what your priorities are. I like to watch what I'm putting in to my body (although I need to stop smoking cigarettes) so I go organic. You may not care, so go for it! But know this, whether you grow organic or not, Do NOT plant in plain soil/soiless mixes. Use the vermiculite, etc. as well.
