600w hps + small closet = no go?

in theory would a 600w hps (95,000lumen output claim) in a closet 3ftx3ft x9ft*heigh* be a major fire hazard or damage anything? Also, ventilation wise the intake should be bigger then the exhaust or vice versa. Last but not least could tinfoil be used to line the walls without damaging vegetation with intense light spots until mylar can be obtained?

    Thanks

    1. You would be better off using flat white paint, on your walls. IMO

    2. Your gonna need a serious ventilation system to keep the heat/airflow under control. Intake should be larger.

    3. Any quality light system is not a fire hazard.

    4. Whatever you decide on, test it, for several days; before popping the seeds.

ummm.... I would think twice and very hard about that light in such a small space. Quality does not equal safety. You can be safe about it for as little effort as a smoke detector in the closet. Burning or potentially burning a house down is not worth the ounce or two that the closet will give you.

    just my thoughts.

Running a 600HPS is best accomplished in a space at least 4x4 feet footprint and 8 feet high. Your closet size is appropriate for a 400HPS.
It's good that you have the height. You will need it to put your exhaust blower. Rememnber a light and its exhaust should be considered a single unit- buy them together to suit your space.
Tinfoil is crappy. Paint it white like the Pimp said.
Plan to keep your ballast up off the ground, preferably outside the closet.
Install a fire detector and keep an extinguisher handy.
Plan how you will get stale air out of the closet- if you rent, it may mean buying a spare closet door that you can cut a couple holes in, and building a baffle over the hole for the end of the duct and a flap over your passive intake slot at the bottom.

im in a 3x4x6h with a 6" 450cfm vortex with excellent ventelation. 1 thing is you need to vent outside the house if all possible if not atleast into another area than where your intake is located. the light will produce some heat

What if the person is using a cool tube with a fan like texas grass is using.... and maybe a secondary 450cfm fan exhausting the room.

I think it's possible with the right cooling/ventilation.

if you buy a nice inline fan and use a cool tube reflector you should be fine methinks.

i am currently running a 600 in a 4x2x8 closet with a 6" cooltube and a 6" vortex fan mounted in the attic. Temps stay in the high 70's to low 80's and everyone seems to be happy in there. i thought about a 400 but decided to go with the 600 for a little more money.

    Not trying to hijack but......

I was in Menards the other day and was wandering around the lighting section. I came upon some HPS bulbs and was looking around. I found some bulbs where the wattage went from 35w up to 250w I believe.

Here is my question....say I have a friend who used 6 - 4ft. flouros for their last grow. Well, I was thinking he could buy 4 - 100w HPS bulbs to use instead. I asked the lady working and she said the bulbs can be used in a regular light socket. Being how they are only 100w I didn't see why not.

Cause obviously 4 - 100w HPS would put out more lumen's than the flouros, correct? His basement stays cool and ventilation is good. The area is 5ft x 2 1/2 ft and about 3 ft. tall.

What you guys think since we are on the topic?

your probably better off going with one 400 or 600 hps. 5 ballasts is going to kill your pockets. The fluros are al right but HPS is a whole new ball park as far as intensity goes (hence the term HID!)
