It's still languishing in committee so who knows when/if it will come up for a vote before summer recess. They tend to let these things die in committee instead of actually debating the merits of the bill.

thank you, Fencewalker. i think they tend to vote on these bills in the summer. i think they usually try to attach an ammendment to an appropriations bill or something. I think it was Congressman Henchy of New York who introduced the bills and ammendments in '05 and '06 to just simply stop funding for the dea, which i think works well, too.

Congress created the dea, Congress can reign them in. I personally believe the dea must be, in no uncertain terms, legally bound to respect the States medical cannabis regulations. this is the best solution, I personally think. Waiting for the executive branch to reschedule just ain't workin out. :twocents:

I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the difference between available education, and education availability? What I mean is, everyone in America can pretty much for free have access to any information they want. Just walk into a library and hop online. Everything you could ever learn in a college classroom you can learn in a library, for free. It has a few weaknesses in that you don't have a prof to ask question directly to, or have lab equipment if needed. For the most part though, the information required to educate one is readily available.

On the other hand, people seem to feel this desire to associate education with school only. I admit that I went to college, and it was great. I much preferred it to learning everything on my own. Towards the end of it though, I realized how big a waste of money it was in terms of what I actually learned. Life lessons aside, I can not advocate paying for school. The time and money involved in the degree to get the starting position could have been spent learning on your own, and working your way into a position to get a job in industry without a degree. Like say going from mail room and then getting hired from the inside.

The point I think I am trying to get it, is that I think the gov is not at all to blame for the education system in america. I think the corps are brainwashing the public (for lack of a better word) into willful ignorance. You can zone out in front of a tv for hours a day if you are not careful, and MANY people do this since it is easier than actually caring about stuff.

meh a good chunk of it speaks the truth but I really disagree with the fact that American's are becoming more stupid. Trust me a hoodlum in the ghetto's is significantly smarter than someone who grew up in 1776.The reason why we think they were smarter is because most of the information that is retained from this time period is from those who held high positions such as John Adams or George Washington.

sorry dude, the truth was much more mundane, in 1776, Americans were the best educated people in the world. back then we LED the world, today, ... not so much.

Also I really disagree with the notion that he claims the government is intentionally trying to keep people from becoming smarter just to retain they're power.

first, he's not saying it's the government, he's saying it's big business, the people who OWN the government.
second, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand why the people at the top would want to continue standing on the heads of those of us at the bottom.
and have you noticed how WIDE the bottom is becoming? and how few there are at the top?

The primary incentive of politicians is to gain wealth and to gain wealth a nation must increase in power and to increase in power one contributing aspect is an increase in education.

not true dude, politicians only give a shit about getting elected and re-elected so they can take advantage of thier position. some may go into politics hoping to make a positive difference but all are quickly seduced by the lobbyists handing out free 'candy' for thier votes.

Obviously if the government intended to supress education then we wouldn't see the many grants available to college students.

i can only speak for myself but, in my opinion, this country is in such dire straits because, as a society, we have embraced the creed of, 'what's in it for me'. nearly everyone has become so self absorbed, so selfish, so self-aggrandizing that the bottom is exploding. instead of raising the bar for the under-priviledged, inner-city kids we have lowered the bar for all kids.
when we raise an entire generation to aspire to become thug's and ho's what can we expect. God help the world when the hip-hop generation comes to power!
