    Female plant = hermie

A friend of mine has an excellent strain of Purple Kush. He was wondering if there was a way to create a hermie {stress, aspirin, etc} as to produce a male Kush for breeding.

in doing that the hermie trait will pass to the offspring and its very hard to get rid of if you can. your best bet is to find a very similar plant and breed with that to increase its vigor and to have a non hermi strain

Take the plant to 12/12 lighting and screw with the lighting schedule about 4 days in a row. Bet that does it.

Ps....I wouldn't consider a plant that hermies due to extreme stress (like fucking around with the lighting constantly) something with a "hermie trait." I think any cannabis plant will hermie if you stress it enough.....nature.

BUT a plant that hermies EASILY or for no real reason would be one I wouldn't breed.

I agree with WH but isn't the usual fem technique to stick another desirable female in the mix to be pollenated after intentionally stressing the original gal?

    Hey Tex,

That is really a non-issue now a days. Dutch Masters' makes a foliar fed product called "Reverse", that with two applications does away with any male flowers, hence pollen, hence seeds. It works.

BTW all MJ is hard wired to go "hermie", it's just that some go trans- gender easier then others.

Can't say I agree Reverse makes things a non-issue......you want to breed the best....not the best you can breed with a foliar spray to keep things in check.

Ps....I like the idea of putting another non-hermied plant in there.....but now you're getting pretty complicated.....different grow rooms with all different lighting and flowering things.....

I'm growing 12 plants from fem seeds. Twelve seeds, twelve females.
To get these seeds I had one (of six) Afghani plants hermie. I never even seen the balls, must have been very few. This hermie powdered the rest of the crop, including a bubblegum plant. I am growing the seeds from that bubblegum. They are at 3 1/2 weeks into flowering now. They are all very much the same, clone like, actually. If they hermie I'll let you all know. But, I don't really expect them to do that. I have quite a few fem seeds from the Afghanis, Foxy seed afghani x bog medley and Bubblegum.

I agree it does seem complicated, but going totally minimal with CFLs and a makeshift tent in a dark area with a little ventilation would be worth it if the cross were a keeper.

Shov, maybe call that mix IEB: Improvised Explosive Bubble?
    (ooooh war joke, too soon)

Did you toss the self'd seeds or you planning on running 'em sometime?

You can't agree? or is it your "hydro guy" telling ya'?

I thought these BB's was for the exchange of ideas and not the passing on of bullshit.

I personally can not afford to have a crop "go to seed" unintentionally. That is what I would term a crop failure.
I use reverse even with strains I have never had a hermie problem with, but figure it's good insurance. By using this product, it does not change any genetics or cause any mutations.
So how does the use of this product change wanting to breed the best?

BTW you might be surprised how many BARRELS of that stuff is sold in Holland. LOL
