(pic) Is it time to flush?

    Here's the pic.

This is my third grow in hydro (DWC) and my last couple of grows were fairly harsh and chemical tasting. I want to flush for the right amount of time and am willing to sacrifice a little yield for optimum taste and smoothness. I've been using the Canna Aqua line.

Trichomes, not pistils.....stress and other factors can cause pistils to change before harvest time.

Please try not to give advice when you don't know the answer yourself.
Pistils and bud ripeness, as midlifecrisis said, have little to do with each other. Heat can cause premature browning, while the trichomes are still clear. And at only 1/3 pistil brown-ness, under stress-free conditions, I'm usually looking at just starting the flush period, because I'm expecting another 1-2 weeks before harvest.

If that is what the book says, then yes, it is wrong. I'd go back and check. I'll bet it says trichomes or crystals.
