Male or Female?

ok so im new on this site and originally only wanted to ask how long i could store my ganja for. on the level of feedback i got back though, Ive stuck around and im now reading various other threads and im getting more and more interested in the various topics. I was just wondering, is it better to have a female or male plant? my initial conclusion was female, though i thought i would ask the forum what their opinions were and/or what the general preferance is! so any one care to discuss this giving reasons why you choose female or male plese? (sorry if this is a n00b style question lol) :jointsmile:

Well if you like to smoke buds, you would want a female. Males produce pollen not buds. If you are going to be growing you would want to kill the males so you can have some seedless smoke. Go into the grow FAQ forum and read up, you will get alot of information there. good luck.

Kill the males as soon as they show. Look in the 'useful charts' sticky in plant problems for diagrams. Specifically, this post:

u can smoke pollem though right?

so the males have no use what-so-ever? which ones produce the seeds?

i was also wondering stinkyattic could you reccomend any seeds for a first time grower (so ones tht are fairly hardy ie grow under my unskilled hand sorry couldnt think of the word!)? also preferably ones that bud early and often...

That question was completely in line with the content of the thread and if you are asking whether you can smoke pollen, I'm guessing that you also are going to need that information yourself...

Males are useful for breeding.
Females produce seeds (come on, have you ever see a dude get pregnant?)
Plants don't bud 'often'; cannabis is an annual whose normal life cycle is to flower once and dies.
Northern Lights is good for beginners. You can order it, or its hybrids, all over the place.
And you can't smoke pollen.

oh ok cool! no i was talkin to mmkonec when i said it was ok to ask questions... anyways that seems something else all together...

so northern lights ok cool... i was asking bout the budding frequency because i saw on a site that sells seeds that one flowers every 6-8weeks! thanks for your help stinkyattic!

It's how long it takes to ripen, not how often it flowers. Most strains take about 8 weeks from when you switch to 12/12 to harvest.
